No matter how many times she was told differently, Dani didn't see what was wrong with the way she was living her life. She did what she wanted, she was happy and as far as she was concerned, that was really what mattered the most. Sure, it was technically bad to be doing half of the things that she did, but she didn't really care. So what if she got held back a year and had to stay behind at Hogwarts a little longer? So what if her grades were terrible and she was learning absolutely nothing worthwhile? It wasn't like she intended to use any of that knowledge at any point anyways. To be honest, Dani didn't really know what she was going to do with herself once she finally escaped from Hogwarts. It hadn't ever been something she had worried about, but now that the day was dragging ever closer, she kind of needed to start.
However, once again she was stumbling back into her dormitory, completely trashed and ready to just fall into her bed. It was approximately three in the morning, so the rest of her dorm mates were long since sleeping, so Dani was doing her best not to make too much noise as she traipsed across the room to get into the bathroom at the back of their room. She needed a shower, or something, to calm herself back down to a state of mind where she might be able to pass out. She'd been out on the town with a couple of her friends, smoking something. Honestly, she wasn't sure what it was, but it definitely wasn't something that she had ever done before and she wasn't sure it had been the best of ideas. She felt absolutely, downright, horrid at the moment, but even night's like this wouldn't change anything about her habits. Never had, probably never would.
Ripping her over-shirt off from herself, Dani tossed it over to the corner of the bathroom, leaving herself in just her bright green tank-top. She was burning up, sweating profusely and her head was rolling with pain. Not exactly the best situation to be in, but Dani couldn't much fix it herself at the moment and there was no way in hell she was going to the Hospital Wing. Though probably safer in the long run, she had no intention of getting herself into any more trouble with the Headmaster that week. Leaning in forward, Dani rested her forearm on the sink, shaking her hair back with a quick flick of her head. Even just looking in the mirror, she could tell that she was in a pretty messed up state, even for herself, which was saying something. Usually she just kind of brushed it off like no big deal and went to sleep, but she knew that would be an impossibility at the moment.

There were very few things in her life that Kate regretted or really disliked, but one of them was the late hours that came with being a Prefect. While some might argue that staying out until two in the morning wasn't late, Kate always dreaded having to wake up for her classes the next morning. And tonight was no exception. But unlike most nights, it hadn't been a quiet one. She caught third years slinking around the hallway, after having obviously made a trip to Weasleys' Wizards Wheezes, and setting up a Portable Swamp right outside the library. And she was lucky enough to have discovered the swamp by stepping right into it, getting soaked up to the waist. Needless to say, the third years were sent to the Headmasters office, and she had to get a professor to remove the swamp.
Getting back to the dormitory, it was about ten after two, she quickly hopped in the shower to wash herself clean of the swamp water. Why they even sold those Portable Swamps, she had no idea, because she certainly wasn't amused by them. Being as quiet as she could, she went and lay down in her bed, about to fall asleep, when she heard the door of the dormitory open. Turning and looking at the door, she saw Dani stumble into the room and into the bathroom. While Kate's body was telling her just to go to sleep and not to think about it, but her head was telling her she needed to make sure Dani was okay. Wrestling with the thought for a few minutes, she sighed a small sigh, and got out of her comfy, warm bed.
Slowly opening the door to the bathroom, she peeked in and could tell that Dani was wasted. It wasn't that much of a surprise, but Kate had hoped that maybe she would have decided to try and change after failing out of school, but it didn't seem to have phased her. "Hey, are you okay?" Kate asked, fully stepping into the room and closing the door. While Kate felt it was her duty because she was a Prefect to make sure she was alright, she was also friends with Dani, and she wouldn't be able to sleep without knowing whether she was alright. Getting a better look at her, Kate saw that Dani was in a bad state. While Kate thought that she should probably go to the Hospital Wing, it wasn't her choice to make, and she didn't want to get Dani in trouble.

Flicking on the water faucet, Dani let it run for a moment, her fingers lingering just under the stream of cool water. Once she was accustomed to the feel of the water, she cupped her hands together to catch the stream, splashing it lightly on her face once her hands had filled. The feel of the cool water on her face helped break the hot flash that she felt, if only slightly. It wasn't often that Dani felt as bad as she did, despite the fact that her habits were more or less a daily thing. Usually, she showed at least some bit of control over herself and didn't do anything outrageously stupid, but for whatever reason that night she just hadn't cared. Taking drugs from strangers had seemed like a good idea at the time, but that was turning out not to be the case. Not in the least actually. Perhaps that would be a lesson best learned in the near future, so as to avoid a repeat performance of the night. Not that Dani had ever been very good at learning her lesson.
Having been in there for a few minutes, the sound of the door opening to the side of her caused her to step back with a surprised huff. It was a ridiculous hour of the morning, so she hadn't been expecting anyone to come in on her. Her eyes blinked for a few minutes before she registered who it was and that the other girl was currently talking. "What? Oh, yeah, I'm fine," she commented, talking slowly so that she didn't say anything stupid, nonsensical or anything else that might lead Katherine to believe that she was anything but fine. It was obvious that she wasn't and there really wasn't much of a chance that she could simply act like she was doing peachy keen. Besides, Katherine was a friend of hers and knew exactly the sort of things that she got up to when she was out late into the nights, so it wasn't like she was clueless as to why Dani looked like she had gotten run over by a truck, pretty much.
Brushing the back of her hand against her eye, Dani wiped the cool water that was still dripping down from her eyelashes, shaking her hand slightly to dry them off again. "Err, it was just a long night," she offered up, as if that would qualify as a perfectly good explanation for her current state. Her head still spinning around wildly, Dani backed up till she was touching the wall, using it to subtly support herself as she was standing. She hated when people worried about her, since she really didn't think it was anything to worry about. So she made a few mistakes now and again, but she would recover from it soon enough and tomorrow would be good as new. At least, she certainly hoped that was the case. Had she known what, exactly, she had taken, it wouldn't have been a situation that she was worried about at all. "What are you doing up?" she asked, hoping that perhaps a change in subject would help them steer clear of any talk about what she had been up to that night.
