Taking a long and heavy drag from his cigarette, Alfie locked his jaw, his lips forming a tight ‘O’, and exhaled the smoke in short bursts. The smoke billowed out before him in small hoops that grew larger the further away they drifted, eventually vanishing into the air completely. The Slytherin watched with bored, hooded eyes as the smoke spiraled and danced into the air. He was currently stood outside of Hogwarts castle, leaning up against a tree, resting his weight on his left leg whilst his right was pent up, foot against the tree. From where he was stood, he could see the old caretakers cabin sat, small and worn, besides the pumpkin patch. Alfie knew for a fact that the caretaker was not in his cabin. He was out, up at the school attending to his business. Alfie had spotted him earlier. And even if the caretaker had been in his cabin, Alfie still would have come here for a smoke. He always did. He sort of liked it here.
Taking the final drag, Alfie flicked away the butt, watching with little interest as it hit the ground some distance away. Exhaling the last of the smoke from his lungs, the Slytherin pocketed his hands and kicked himself form the tree. He’d had his fill of poison, now it was time for something to eat.
Once Alfie had reached the school he’d headed straight for the kitchens. The Feast would be soon but he didn’t care. He was hungry now. A snack would keep him satisfied until the Feast began. Rummaging in his pants pocket, he retrieved a small shrivelled up white bag, filled with a range of different sweets and mints. Alfie picked up a small oval shaped sweet, one that was known to instantly freshen up a persons breath. It tasted fucking awful, but it worked, so Alfie quickly shoved it into his mouth, chewed and then swallowed with a slight grimace.
He was fast approaching the kitchens now. He could see that the portrait door was already open, which meant that either a professor or student was in there, probably with the same intentions he had. There was a figure in the doorway, definitely female if the long dark waves that cascaded down her back were anything to go by.
“’Scuse me.” Alfie shimmied his way through the portrait door, grinning when he had to press up against the female in order to pass. His natural smug smirk was quick to slip into an inane grin when he came face to face with the female.
“Thomas!” He cheered, his voice laced with enthusiasm. He could see her shoulders stiffen at his unnaturally friendly greeting and he smirked., offering her a cheeky wink. “Seeing you has just made my day.”
“Alfie... Yeah. Great. Wish I could say the same.” Frankie’s replied with a roll of her eyes. Thank Merlin she’d just finished up because she wasn’t sure she was up for Alfie and his annoying ego. “Shouldn’t you be out terrorizing some poor fourth years?”
"I'd rather terrorize you, Thomas" Alfie flashed Frankie a wide-toothy and unbearably cocky grin at her sarcastic statement. Stepping further into the kitchen, he placed his fingers to his lips and whistled loudly before moving to take a seat on the corner of an empty table. A house elf had appeared, seconds after hearing the whistle. Alfie barely paid him any attention as he listed off what it was he wanted.“Make me a sandwich. Ham and cheese.” He helped himself up onto a tables corner. “Stick some cucumbers on there too.” He ordered and snapped his fingers impatiently when the house elf didn’t immediately move. “Whilst we’re young, yeah?”
“Yes sir.” The house elf quickly nodded his head at Alfie and hastily scurried off to make his sandwich. The Feast was soon but the House Elf knew better than to point this out whenever Alfie came in looking for food.
“I’d love to stay and chat but I have better things to do,” Frankie swung her book bag onto her shoulder, “Like drinking bleach or pulling out my hair for instance.” Anything would be comparable to spending time with Alfie Chase and she hoped she made that clear. Frankie spared once last glance back over her shoulder as she passed through the portrait door.
“See you around, Thomas.” Alfie called to her back and grinned when she replied with ‘In your dreams, Chase’. Now there was a girl Alfie wouldn’t mind getting to know on a more intimate level. But he’d heard that she didn’t give out as easily as some of the other bints in this place. Which was just too damn bad.

There were points in time when the commons room became far too much for Alex and she had to leave. Too many people and too much talking drove her completely insane and it didn't help that her dorm room was generally overrun with happy people that felt the need to talk at her and make her hate her life. Grabbing a scarf and a jacket, Alex left the Ravenclaw tower in a huff to find some peace and quiet for once. She considered going to the library, but that was too stereotypical and wasn't really as quiet as it should have been. Not to mention, whenever she was there it seemed that someone from her house felt obligated to speak at her and attempt bringing some sort of cheer to her life and that was the last thing that she wanted.
Not sure where she wanted to go, Alex settle for simply walking until she found a place where there were no other people. Unfortunately for Alex, that place probably wasn't going to exist anytime soon. As she continued down the stairs, searching every floor for somewhere to go, Alex's mood became increasingly more bitter as she failed to find a place to be. The outdoors were completely out of the question, as it was too bloody cold for anyone to be there. Not to mention, it was gross outside and there were animals and things that she really didn't want to deal with. Reaching the ground floor, Alex was about ready to give up and just sit somewhere before the thought struck her to go down one more floor.
Usually, the only thing that brought Alex down into the colder, darker environment of the dungeons was to attend classes, but perhaps a trip to the kitchens would do her good. It was quiet and it didn't seem like a place that most people would be and there was food. Yes, that seemed like the perfect place to be. Angling her direction towards the stairs to the last floor of the castle, Alex made her way to the painting that held the entrance to the kitchens. Unfortunately, it seemed, for Alex, it had been a terribly bad day to go down to the kitchens, as there was already quite the commotion taking place there. Her first instinct was to turn back around and leave, but by the time that she had realized what was going on, there was already someone coming her way. Alex hated to feel stupid and she knew that randomly turning about would make her seem lost, or some other dumb thing. So, she kept going with the hope that whoever was still left inside the kitchens wouldn't be too bad.
However, luck was once again not on Alex's side and the first person that she saw as soon as she got into the kitchens was Alfie Chase. Now, being the sort of person that she was, Alex found that she usually tended to get along better with Slytherins than with most of the rest of the school, but Alfie was different. He was one of those people that fell under the category of Alex's most hated. It wasn't exactly hard to make it onto that list, but Alfie was one that held a special place on it. He was a flirt, which was one of the qualities that drove Alex absolutely insane with dislike. She didn't like people as it was, but when they were acting foolish and attempting to be "charming" it was just that much worse.
As per usual, Alex had something akin to a frown on her face as she walked into the kitchen, doing her best to ignore the existence of Alfie and his "charm." Sitting down at the furthest table from him, Alex set about calling the houseelves over to grab her a mug of hot chocolate and an apple tart. Obviously, even if she hadn't necessarily come there to eat, it would have been rude of her to not ask the houseelves for something, since that's what they were there for. And, obviously, Alex wasn't one to be rude ever. Sort of. Waiting another few moments, she glanced up at Alfie with a bored expression. "Aflred, didn't notice you there," she said, dryly. Her nonchalant manner meant simply as a blow to his ego that, undoubtedly, would assume that everyone would notice him, just as her lack of using his actual name was meant to imply that he was nothing more than a nuisance.

Alfie had been staring up at the ceiling, his weight rested back on his palms, so he didn't see Alex enter. But when he heard her speak he immediately frowned. Fucking great. Alfie really did not like this girl. Not only was she completely morbid but she always went out of her way to call him.. Alfred. Ugh, a shiver tickled its way down his spine and Alfie shook himself. There was nothing he hated more than being called Alfred. Only his mother called him Alfred. Anyone else who did usually ended up horribly hexed. Not that many people knew to call him Alfred. Alfie never did hex Alex though, he repaid her annoyance with a form of annoyance of his own; flirting and just being plain obnoxious. He knew she hated it when he behaved over-friendly with her. So, wiping the frown from his face, Alfie turned his head from the ceiling and to the girl sat across the kitchen.
"Alex," he started, a bored drawl pulling at his words. "How are things?" he was pulling at a loose thread on the sleeve of his robes. It stank of smoke. He'd have to do something about that. Couldn’t have the professors putting him in detention. They could always tell the difference between smoke from a potion or experiment gone wrong and cigarette smoke.
“Been to any parties lately?” He flashed her a grin at this. Of course she hadn’t been to any parties. Alex wasn't what anyone would call a social butterfly. In fact she was the exact opposite. Shrugging his way out of his dark robes, Alfie slipped from the table and turned his back on Alex. He placed the robes across the tables surface and removed his wand from his shirt pocket. One flick of his wrist and a quiet murmur of words and the dark cloth was free of their stench. When Alfie had dressed himself in his robes again, satisfied with their fresh scent, the house elf had returned with his sandwich. They were always fast with his food. They knew better than to take their time with him, even when they were preparing for the feast.
“Cheers.” He thanked the house elf and took the offered plate. The house elf blinked owlishly, shocked, as if he couldn’t quite believe that Alfie Chase had just thanked him. But Alfie didn’t pay the small elf any more attention, he had re-taken his seat on the tables end and was now helping himself to his sandwich.
“These house elf know how to make a good fucking sandwich.” He said around a mouthful of food, winking at Alex in the process. He knew she wouldn’t like him talking with his mouthful. His mother hated it. Alex was a lot like his mother; hateful and boring. And they both called him Alfred.

Considering it was Alfie that she was dealing with, Alex knew that she should have expected some attempt at conversation on his part. He knew how to get under her skin and he took full advantage of that. Of course, it wasn't like it took all that much to bother Alex, since she was pretty much consistently in a mood, but Alfie knew better than just about anyone how to irritate her. It was as if he was put here on the earth simply for the purpose of making Alex miserable. So, maybe she took it a little bit out of proportion, but that was okay with Alex. After all, she felt like her disgust with Alfie was perfectly warranted. He was precisely the sort of pig-headed, irritating, prick that she spent most of her time trying to avoid...yet there he was. In her not-so-quiet space.
On one hand, Alex certainly considered simply ignoring everything that Alfie said. However, she didn't have the ability to do that. When she was irritated with someone, she let them know them. Patience and simply letting things slide were not things that Alex knew how to do. At all. "Things are quite good, aside from the fact that you're here. S'pose that can't be fixed though, can it?" Alex answered with a scowl. She knew that now that she was here, Alfie wasn't about to let this go peacefully. He didn't have the decency to do such a thing, as far as Alex knew and Alex didn't have the optimism to believe that perhaps he would surprise her for once. No, one way or other, this would not turn out to be a pleasant experience. Not that Alex had been expecting much of one anyway, even without Alfie there.
At his next question, Alex shot him another glare. Why he would ask such a thing escaped her, though, it was probably just for the purpose of further making her angry. "Yes, Alfred. All the time, actually. You'd be surprised the number of parties I find myself lured into," she drawled, rolling her eyes a bit. As if Alex would ever be caught dead at something so barbaric as a party. That wouldn't suit her in the slightest. Not to mention, the number of people that would be at a party would make her all kinds of uncomfortable. Alex wasn't afraid of people, exactly. She just didn't like to be around them. Most of them were dirty, grungy or just plain disgusting, so surrounding herself with such people would never turn out good. She might catch their stupidity or something.
As Alfie took off his robes to do, well, something to them, Alex watched with a frown. She didn't know what he was doing, but she doubted that she cared. From what she could tell, he had simply cast a spell on them, though what for she couldn't tell from where she was sitting. Possibly something to get the smell off of them, since there was no doubt that they stank with his natural musk...or perhaps of smoke. That was another trait about Alfie that drove her nuts. Smoking was, in her opinion, disgusting and quite unhealthy. "You know, I'm quite glad that you're a smoker. Perhaps you'll come down with some terminal disease and I won't have to bother with you for the rest of my life," Alex said with a nod, deciding to assume that his spellwork had something to do with his smoking habits. As per usual, Alex was being her typical less than friendly self. Though, she was much worse with Alfie than most people. At least usually she had a legitimate reason before she went off and said things like that.
The fact that he actually thanked the house elf surprised Alex. Alfie didn't seem the type to say any sort of thanks to a lower creature, which the house elves usually were. However, her momentary impressed state quickly turned back to disgust when Alfie started to eat. Not just eating though, talking while he was eating. While Alex wasn't particularly the most mannered girl, she at least had the decency not to do something like that. "You're a pig, you know," she commented, narrowing her eyes as she watched on in horror. Shaking her head in irritation, Alex turned away when the house elves came with her own order. Holding the hot chocolate between her hands to warm them, Alex took a sip from it. Unlike Alfie, Alex hadn't bothered to thank the house elves at all. Though, she didn't think it was expected of her.

“You'd miss me if i died. Who’s going to annoy you if I’m not around?” Alfie questioned with a grin, dismissing her sarcastic comments as playful banter. Because despite the fact that she was probably trying to piss him off, that’s what it was to Alfie; playful banter. Although Alfie was not at all fond of Alex, he sort of liked quipping with her. He liked that she wasn’t afraid to bite back or insult him. It kept him entertained.
What he didn’t like however was the way she always insisted on calling him Alfred. Not that he was going to let her know that. Ever. There would be no stopping her then. Dropping his half eaten sandwich to the plate, Alfie placed his fingers to his lips and whistled again.
“Pint of orange juice.” He ordered mindlessly, rubbing a hand through his already tousled blonde hair. The house elf that had appeared, disappeared just as fast as it had come, off to get Alfie his drink. He needed another cigarette and wondered vaguely if the house elves would snitch on him for having one down here. He glanced at Alex and wondered if she would tell a professor, just to piss him off. He figured that yes, she probably would. “Fuck it.”
Once the house elf had come and gone with his juice, Alfie decided to light up. Sticking his hand into the inside of pocket of his robes, he pulled out a silver packet, knocked out a cigarette and then pulled out a lighter from his pants pocket. Placing the small white stick between his lips, he lifted the lighter and flicked it to life. “Let’s keep this our secret, yeah?” He said and glanced side-ways at Alex, smirk still in place. Of course Alfie doubted she’d agree because he was probably her most hated person at this school, but he found he didn’t quite care. He was bored and wanted to smoke and Alex being here in the kitchen with him was hardly enough reason not have one.
“Have you always been this way?” Alfie cocked his head to the right and eyed Alex with mild curiosity. He was trying to think back to the first time he’d met her but as she wasn’t anyone important in his life, he couldn’t remember. “You know, completely morbid?” he flicked some ash onto his plate and then chugged down some orange juice.

The idea that she might ever miss Alfie was absolutely ridiculous to Alex. She wasn't exactly fond of having people around in general and Alfie even less so than most, so it definitely wasn't a possibility that she would ever miss him if he were gone. He was simply a source of annoyance in her life and it would be much easier if he was gone. "I'm sure I could find someone to replace you in my life if you were gone, Alfred," Alex replied with a nod. Certainly, there were plenty of other people around that bothered the hell out of her, so it wasn't like she would be lacking in annoyances if Alfie weren't around. Of course, he was one of the more irritating people that she knew and it would make a difference if he weren't there, but it would be a good difference and one which Alex would welcome wholeheartedly.
Alex rolled her eyes irritably when he whistled for the house elves, her previous surprise that he was treating them somewhat respectfully completely gone. Even if she wasn't exactly the most respectful when it came to the elves, she wasn't that bad. At least, she wasn't that bad most of the time. "Must you be such an ass to the house elves?" Alex asked, glancing up from the table to look at him with a frown. She was being rather hypocritical saying that, considering she wasn't exactly the model to look to in that regard. However, she didn't care. In that moment, at least, she hadn't done anything quite too disrespectful towards the elves and Alfie was the one being a jerk. Sort of. Even if that was what the house elves were for, it was still another thing that Alex could go off on Alfie for. In a way, being a bit of a bitch towards him made her feel better and so she was perfectly happy to say whatever she wanted.
Watching as Alfie started to move about, a look of curiosity passed Alex's face as she attempted to see what he was doing. It wasn't that she cared, more so just that Alfie doing anything at all made her feel a tad unsettled. Alex never knew what he was up to and she wouldn't have put it past him to do something stupid that would irritate her further. However, it ended up that he was simply lighting up for a smoke. Although Alex found it completely disgusting, she didn't quite care enough to bother telling him off for it. However, when he gave her that smirk and asked if they could keep it their "little secret" Alex wasn't so sure that she would. It would be incredibly easy for her to just tell a professor and give him a hell of a time with that. Perhaps they'd make him do something disgusting or give him some grunt work around the castle. Certainly, that would be something Alex could chide him about if it happened. However, she couldn't bring herself to find it in her to put forth the effort for such a thing. "And why, Alfred, would I do that?" she asked, looking over at him with a rather bored look. Perhaps she could use this to her advantage and get something out of him.
His question sort of threw Alex off. No one had ever really questioned the way she was, they just kind of accepted it. She generally wasn't that open with others and certainly didn't talk about herself with people like Alfie. Arching an eyebrow at his last added comment, she snorted slightly in amusement. Morbid. That was an interesting choice of word to use for her, but not at all a wrong choice, as it quite fit her personality. "I suppose I have," she answered with a shrug, not going into it any more than that. She highly doubted that Alfie actually cared any about what made her tick, nor did she care to delve into that with him. Alex was a very closed off person with everyone, even those people that she was close with. Of course, it wasn't like she was genuinely close with that many people anyways. Honestly, she could probably count the people she "liked" on one hand.
Leaning back in her seat, Alex took another bite from her apple tart and looked back to Alfie. "And what about you, Alfred? Have you always been an obnoxious prick?" she asked in return. Obviously, she couldn't just let him off easily and without a question of her own. She didn't care to know any more about him, but certainly he wasn't about to give her an actual answer anyways. As far as Alex was concerned, it was probably a complete impossibility that the two of them could ever sit down and have a civil conversation that didn't include sarcasm and rude comments at each other. The two of them were just too different from each other to manage getting along. That and the fact that they were both quite capable of getting on each others nerves easily made it much to impossible to get along or even just be normal to each other.
