A long time ago we used to be friendsbut i haven't thought of you lately at all Gabby stared with half-lidded eyes at the menu held in her hands, not really paying it any attention but holding it up before her all the same. She already knew what she was going to order, she’d known before she’d entered the café. Before she’d tumbled out of bed even. She knew because she ordered the same thing every Sunday morning. The only reason she was staring at, but not really reading the menu, was because she waiting on her usual order of food and kind of bored. Anyway, as far as she knew, they could have added more dishes to the menu since last Sunday. Not that it would have made any difference because Gabby had already placed the same order she always did. Sat alone in the far corner of Chimera Cafe, a popular café in Hogsmeade and one of Gabby’s favorite haunts, she placed the menu back into it’s holder and crossed her arms on the tables surface, resting forward onto them. Her brown eyes did a quick sweep of the café, taking in the familiar surroundings and the unfamiliar faces of the other customers sat scattered around the large room. There weren’t many people in. Just a few couples here and there, which was how Gabby liked it. It was still early , 7:17 am to be exact and many people were still tucked up in bed. The Café was even more empty than usual not only because of the time but because of the fact that it was a Sunday. Most normal people liked to have a lazy Sunday by stopping in bed until noon. Gabby herself loved sleep. She wasn’t a morning person. At all. In fact she was a complete monster if ever woken up earlier than she had to be. Her family knew that all too well. But dragging herself up at seven on a Sunday morning so that she was here for Chimera opening was something she was happily willing to do. Why? Because Mikey works Sundays. And Mikey makes the best damn pancakes in. The. World.
It was in her third year, on her first trip to Hogsmeade, that she'd stumbled across the Chimera Cafe. She'd stopped in to grab something to eat since she'd skipped breakfast up at Hogwarts. It was on that day that she met Mikey and the wonderfulness that were his panckakes. Over time coming to the Cafe every Sunday for Mikey's pancakes had become something of a ritual. It didn't hurt that Gabby thought he was cute either, even though he was way too old for her. But there wasn't anything wrong with having a schoolgirl crush or hoping that he might one day propose to her. Gabby smiled at the idea of having Mikey for her husband. It would be brilliant. He'd make her pancakes everyday and life would be good. Of course he had a girlfriend and a baby, but she could fantasize.
Being sat next to a window, allowed Gabby to see that there was a light drizzle of rain spattering against the glass. Gabby didn't mind the rain. She, unlike most people, actually enjoyed it when it rained and couldn't understand why people got so down about it. It was only water after all. Drumming her fingers against the table, Gabby smiled when the waitress arrived with her glass of orange juice and explained that her pancakes would be ten more minutes. "Thanks." She took a sip from her drink and when she placed the glass down on the table, she began to trace her index finger over the rim in slow circles, ignoring the growl of anticipation that rumbled in her stomach. tagged;; open words;; 612 lyrics;; we used to be friends - The Dandy Warhols outfit;; here notes;; random lyrics & yeah.

Man we were killin' time We were young and restless
During the weekdays, Tyson hated being woken up early for any reason. He was a big fan of getting his sleep and to some, it came as a bit of a surprise that he was always up extremely early on the weekends. There were no classes for him to bother with, so he didn't really mind getting a head start on his day, since he knew it would be filled with things that he actually enjoyed doing. His favorite thing, perhaps, to do on the weekends was to go out and just have a good time doing whatever. Most Sunday's, for Ty, that equated to going out hiking. There were plenty of trails out when you got past the outskirts of Hogsmeade, making it a pretty perfect place to just go out hiking. Of course, in the past he'd usually taken someone with him, but today it was just Tyson and he was more than happy to still go. He liked having that time to himself to just relax and be a part of nature or whatever. Besides, it was the perfect environment for writing songs.
Hopping up out of his bed just past six in the morning, Tyson threw on the fist outfit that he could find. It was pretty simple, just jeans and a shirt, but it was comfortable, which made it rather perfect for an early morning hike around the forest. Picking up his pair of sunglasses, Tyson set them on the front of his shirt so that they wouldn't fall and also grabbed his guitar to take with him. Strapping it across his back, Tyson left from his dormitory to head down to Hogsmeade. It was a fairly nice day out at the time, perfect for a walk, really, so he didn't bother catching a carriage to take him over to the town and instead opted to just walk there. He planned on walking anyways, so he didn't see a problem with getting a bit of a head start on himself. He had to keep in shape somehow, obviously, so this was probably a good thing for him.
When he reached the entrance to the town, Tyson veered off towards the left to head over to the local cafe before he left on his walk. He definitely didn't want to go off without eating first and then grabbing something to go for lunch, since he had no idea how long he would be out there for. He wasn't the kind of guy that really planned where his day would go and just kind of went along with whatever happened. It worked for him and gave him the chance to switch things up if he needed to. Walking down to the cafe, a light smile crossed his face as he smelled the breakfast wafting through the air. Even if he wasn't a morning person usually, breakfast was by far his favorite meal of the day. Sure, he usually ate it around lunch time, but it was good enough that he'd be happy to eat it all the time anyways.
Unfortunately for Ty, as he started to near the cafe a slight shower of rain started to fall from the sky, canceling any plans he may have had to go out hiking. Pushing open the door to the cafe, Tyson entered into the small diner with a slight frown on his face. It wasn't too crowded, which was nice, since he was kind of in the mood for a quieter breakfast. Not to mention, that meant he could easily grab a nice seat over by one of the windows or something. Obviously he wouldn't be out hiking that morning, so he may as well at least be able to look out on the forest. Not quite the best substitute, but that wasn't anything a good plate of waffles and bacon couldn't fix. Even if he was a bit down about the fact that he wouldn't be able to go out like he had planned, he would find a way to turn the day around into a good time.
Looking around for a place to sit, Tyson's attention was caught by a young looking girl that seemed to be sitting alone. He was pretty sure that he'd seen around the school and that he had had a class or two with her before, but he didn't think he'd ever really had a chance to get to know her. However, now seemed like a good time to do just that. Striding over to where she was seated, he paused just short of the chair and cleared his throat a bit. "Ah, Gabby, isn't it? Mind if I sit down? Wouldn't want to see a pretty girl like you all alone on a Sunday morning, eh?" he commented with a smile. Placing his hands on the wing of the chair across from her, he waited for her answer before he went ahead and sat down. Though he hated to admit it, there was a chance that she might say no. Some people just didn't care for his obviously, quite so charming personality.

A long time ago we used to be friendsbut i haven't thought of you lately at all Even though Gabby had gotten to bed early last night and had managed to get a good seven hours sleep, she still felt a little tired. Pressing a hand to her mouth to stifle another yawn, she wondered if her tiredness was down to the fact that she hadn't eaten yet and needed food to energize her body. As if on cue her stomach growled and Gabby dropped her hand to pat it. "Yeah, yeah, it's coming..." she mumbled to herself and leaned forward to rest her arms on the tables surface. Really, how long did it take to make pancakes?
When the door swung open, Gabby's eyes automatically moved to see who had entered. It was a boy, a familiar one, with a guitar strapped to his back. When the boy turned his head in her direction, looking for a place to sit, Gabby recognized him instantly as Tyson Macmillan. She didn't know him per say but they did share a few classes and Gabby always did have an excellent memory when it came down to people and their names. She knew the names of everyone she shared classes with.
A brief look of surprise passed over her face when he approached her table but it was replaced with a bemused smile when he followed up his question to sit down with a compliment. "Does that line always work for you?" she quirked a brow and then quickly shook her head, as if she hadn't meant to say what she had, before rubbing a hand over her face. "Sorry, sorry. Defense mechanism. Lack of sleep and hunger pangs make for one grumpy Ravenclaw." she smiled, sheepish and nodded at the chair he was stood at. "Yes, you may join me." If you still want to. She added mentally.
Taking a sip from her orange juice, Gabby hoped Tyson hadn't been put off by her comment. Gabby knew that she could be sarcastic at the best of times. Well, pretty much all the time. But whenever she felt tired/grumpy/annoyed, she easily slipped from witty sarcasm into bitchy sarcasm. It wasn't one of her finer traits, even she could admit that, but it happened. Not everyone liked it, but Gabby didn't care, it wasn't like she was out to make the world love her. She was only human after all.
"Oh, yeah, I'm Gabby, by the way." she said over her glass of juice, confirming what he'd guessed at earlier. "Tyson, right?" she nodded to the guitar she could see peeking over his shoulder and placed her now empty glass down. "Nice guitar." She hadn't really spoken with Tyson before but since she was alone and had been a little rude to him, she thought that the least she could do was be friendly and welcoming. Not that she wouldn't have been friendly or polite in the first place.

Man we were killin' time We were young and restless
For the most part, Tyson was fairly easygoing and was difficult to get too worked up, so when Gabby responded with a less than welcoming line, he wasn't too bothered. In fact, he shook it off with a chuckle and a rather amused grin on his face. He could sympathize with the whole lack of sleep and hunger thing, so he couldn't really fault her for her lack of social skills at the moment. Besides, she quickly apologized for it and offered the seat to him, which he took with a nod and a gracious smile. "Actually, you'd be surprised how few women actually fall for that nowadays. They make it much too hard for a guy," he commented with a laugh as he pulled the chair out to sit down with her.
Settling back, he pulled his guitar from his back and set it down on the floor next to him so that it was leaning up against the wall. "Well, lucky for you, I've dealt with a few grumpy Ravenclaws in my day," he nodded. Certainly, he'd seen his cousin Kaiya on some of her worst days before and that was a sight to be reckoned with, so he was pretty sure he could deal with a little sarcasm here and there from Gabby. Even if it was rather early in the morning and he had yet to grab breakfast, Tyson was in a fairly decent mood. Besides, he didn't see any reason not to have quite the jovial attitude. Perhaps the girl had been a bit brusque at first, but she seemed to be in a bit of a better mood now.
Glad that he had remembered her name right, he nodded with a small smile when she inquired as to his own name. He wasn't exactly the most well known throughout the school, but he liked to think that he made enough of an impression that at the very least most people would remember his name. "The one and only," he responded, though he couldn't say he was quite so big-headed to think he was that special. He was a confident guy, but not to the point where he came off as being overly cocky. He was just sure of himself, generally, and was comfortable enough with that to at least joke around sometimes when it came to that sort of thing.
Glancing over at his guitar with a grin, he nodded a bit in response to her comment. "Yeah, thanks. It's uh, a bit beat up, but it still puts out a good tune," he chuckled. It was a fairly old guitar, since he'd had it for quite a few years now, but he wouldn't have traded it for anything. Obviously, it had sentimental value, having been around pretty much since he had started there at Hogwarts. Sure, he had a few other, newer, models, but this was most definitely his favorite of the bunch an always the one that he took around with him whenever he went out somewhere. "Do you play at all?" he asked, looking up at Gabby with a questioning expression. He knew that there were a few others around the school that played, but he wasn't sure if Gabby was amongst that number.
Turning to the left for a moment, Ty called over one of the waitresses to put his own order in. "Yeah, can I get a plate of waffles. Oh and, I'll be picking up the tab for the two of us," he nodded, giving the waitress a rather charming grin before she turned to leave. Obviously, he couldn't just come invade Gabby's space without paying for her breakfast. He was that kind of guy and he had a feeling that he just kind of had to do it, or else Gabby might protest or something. There were plenty of times when he'd had to argue the point when out with girls, so he'd learned that it was easiest to just tell the waitress and take care of it that way.
Turning back to Gabby with a friendly smile, Tyson waited for a moment before he started to talk again. He'd come to realize that he didn't really know all that much about Gabby, if anything at all. They'd had classes together, but had never gotten to talking before now, so of course this was an opportunity to get to know her a little bit better, perhaps. "So, what brought you out here so early in the morning?" he asked, figuring this was a decent enough question to start up some sort of conversation. He doubted that many people got up early on the weekends to go out for breakfast without there being some sort of reasoning behind it.

A long time ago we used to be friendsbut i haven't thought of you lately at all Overall, Gabby was glad that Tyson hadn't taken her sarcasm to her heart. Instead he laughed it off and explained that he'd had to deal with grumpy ravenclaws in the past and briefly, Gabby wondered who. Not that it mattered much but maybe he was friends with someone she knew. At least that would give them something to talk about, it wasn't often she was approached by people she barely knew and made to converse with them so she felt a little lost. Which was why she commented on his guitar since she didn't want to slip into an uncomfortable silence. "Yeah, but that just gives it character." She explained in response to his statement that his guitar was a little battered. "Ah, no, I don't play. I can sing, sort of. Not that I'm bragging or anything." she grinned and shrugged her shoulders. "I used to be on the school choir"
The temptation to ask why her pancakes were taking so long gnawed at her brain when Tyson called the waitress over. Mikey usually had them ready pretty fast, it wasn't like they were all that hard to make. Of course he was probably cooking up breakfasts for the other customers but Gabby thought her pancakes should have been top priority. Because she felt she might bite someone's head off if she didn't get some food into her aching stomach some time soon. She'd was about to ask the waitress about her own order when she was distracted by Tyson and what he'd said to the other woman. "You really don't have to do that." Gabby protested, somewhat uncomfortable. It wasn't often, if at all, that a random male joined her for breakfast and paid for it too. Tyson was clearly trying to do the polite thing but now she felt like she owed him. He didn't seem like someone who'd let her get away with paying for her own breakfast though so she didn't comment any further on the matter and chose instead to answer his question.
"It's pancake sunday." she said simply and then as if on cue a plate of stacked pancakes was placed on the table before her. Flashing a happy and grateful smile, Gabby thanked the waitress and unwrapped her knife and fork from the paper napkin. "I come here every sunday." she explained as she went about adding syrup to her pancake tower. "Mikey makes the best pancakes but he only works sunday mornings." Cutting into a pancake, Gabby quickly took a bite. "Mmm, so good." she took another bite and chewed slowly, savoring the taste. "This our secret ok? Only a select few people know about Mikey and his genius pancakes. Otherwise everyone come flocking." And that wouldn't do at all. Mikey's pancakes were a hidden gem and Gabby wanted to keep it that way. If Tyson told others, and she was sure she'd find out if he did, well she'd have to kill him. Of course she didn't want to do something so drastic but Mikey's pancakes really were that good.
"So, why are you up so early? Shouldn't you be in bed like every other sane person?" she teased with a smile, aware that her comment implied that she was part of the insane group. Of course If Gabby didn't have Mikey's pancakes then she'd still be curled up in bed, fast asleep. Early mornings were not her thing. At all.

Man we were killin' time We were young and restless
Certainly, it was nice to know that Gabby wasn't one of those people that discredited the value of a good, old guitar. He'd had quite a few of his mates bash the old thing, but he wasn't about to get rid of it any time soon. "Exactly. It's been places, gives it a different tone than the newer ones, I think," Tyson nodded. Of course, he doubted that Gabby really cared to get into the technical things about the guitar, so he simply left it at that before he got caught up in talking on and on about it. A rather bemused smile appeared on his face when she mentioned the school choir. "I didn't even know we had a school choir. That's pretty impressive," he commented, a bit of sarcasm coming out in his voice. It was meant in a joking manner, of course, but he couldn't particularly be sure if she would pick up on that or not.
As he had somewhat expected, Gabby was quick to protest his offer to pay for both of their breakfasts. He waved his hand slightly to brush it off, since he didn't intend to let her get her way with that one. "You're entirely right. I most definitely do not have to. I just want to," he shrugged. He didn't see why anyone would really protest the idea, since he would be more than happy to let someone buy him breakfast. However, he supposed he could understand where she was coming from, especially since she didn't particularly know him all that well. Whatever the case, he was still paying for it and he would definitely try to make sure she accepted it and didn't feel too bad. He knew some people got weird about people doing things for them and he hoped she wouldn't be one of them.
When she told him that it was pancake Sunday, he raised an eyebrow slightly, not sure if that was some sort of special they had here or what. Certainly, when the plate of pancakes was set down in front of her, he couldn't deny that his stomach rumbled slightly. They did look rather delicious and he was distracted for a moment until Gabby started to talk again. From what he could gather, it was just a day that Gabby got up and came to breakfast all by herself. He felt a bit as if he were intruding on her tradition or something, but he still thought it was better to have company than to be alone. "Ah, well. Perhaps I should have ordered the pancakes than, eh? Maybe next week," he said with a nod, chuckling slightly at her. He definitely couldn't say he knew the names of any of the cooks around Hogsmeade, so that was rather impressive on Mikey's part. He must have been pretty damn good.
A large grin appeared when she said that it was their little secret and he gave her a solemn nod. Clearly, the girl was pretty serious about her pancakes and Ty felt that it was probably a lot safer to just agree with her and not mention it anymore. Something told him he'd regret it if he did. "You betcha. Cross my heart and hope to die, I won't tell another soul about your pancake love," he replied. He was starting to get slightly irate that his own food wasn't there yet and was quite relieved when he saw a perfect stack of waffles set down in front of him. He quickly doused the pile in butter and syrup before cutting it up to take a bite. They were quite possibly some of the best pancakes ever, but perhaps that was simply because he was rather hungry at the time.
Leaning back from his plate when Gabby asked about why he was there, Tyson gave her a rather amused shrug. "Clearly, I'm a crazy," he replied with a nod. "Nah, I was going to go hiking, but the weather turned foul, so I'm just...eating. Figure I might as well gain some calories to celebrate the fact that I won't be off burning them." Admittedly, Ty was a bit bummed that he wouldn't get his hike in, but he wasn't really going to let it get him in a bad mood. That wouldn't do anyone any good. Besides, he still had the whole day ahead of him and there was a chance that the weather might clear up enough for him to head back outside instead of sitting around indoors and doing a whole lot of nothing. Though, it was kind of nice to chat at Gabby. She wasn't so bad.
