Maybe in the future, you're gonna come back The only way to really know is to really let it go There were quite a few floors to the castle at Hogwarts, most of which had at least something notable about them that might merit someone's presence there, but not the sixth floor. The sixth floor didn't have any important classrooms, none of the interesting features of the castle would lead you there, and generally it had little purpose. There were the odd occasions where it might be used for study groups with some of the assistant professors, but aside from that it was abysmally empty. So empty, in fact, that the odds of a professor or prefect stumbling upon you there were absolutely miniscule. This, coupled with the fact that it was fairly close to the Ravenclaw tower, was precisely why Dani often found herself hanging out there. No one would bother her and get her into any sort of trouble and there was plenty of room for her to cause whatever havoc she happened upon without much of a consequence. All in all, it was the absolute best place for her.
As most everyone was fully aware, Dani wasn't really that great of a student. She was highly intelligent, sure, but there were far too many times that she just found that she didn't care enough to try. It wasn't that there was anything difficult that kept her from doing well, it was just that she simply didn't do it. Her lack of discipline was the only reason why she was even still there in the castle, taking classes that she'd already taken and more or less wasting her time. If she had just taken the time to actually show up for her exams, there wouldn't have been a big fuss about her complete and utter disregard for the school and her classes, but she hadn't. Skipping her OWLS wasn't her shining moment, that was for sure, but she was at least on the way to making it out of there now. One more measly year and one more set of exams and she would be free to go on and do whatever she planned to do.
Not that Dani had plans, that is. Honestly, she hadn't put any thought at all into where she wanted to go after she left Hogwarts. She'd been there so long that it hardly seemed like a possibility that she would ever be getting out of there. Besides, she had an entire year to think about it and make plans before she was shunted out into the world. At least, that was what she kept telling herself and anyone else that thought it necessary to lecture her about it. She'd heard it all plenty a time before. She needed some idea of what she wanted out of life, some ambition to pursue, whatever. None of it was really advice she had bothered to take. Dani was happy enough to just pretend like none of that was a concern at the moment and that she had all the time in the world to let things play out as they may.
It was just that lack of concern that led her to continue just as she had for the last few years of her life. Skipping out on classes, or at best showing up to them stoned, not doing the majority of her assignments and altogether just sabotaging her future. But, Dani didn't care. Hell, she was stoned to the point where she probably wouldn't have cared a damn about well, anything. The sixth floor corridor had pretty much become her personal smoking area. If she wasn't off hanging out with someone or out on the town, there was a fairly good chance that she would be there on the sixth floor with a joint. It wasn't often that people joined her, which she didn't mind at all. Dani was fine there on her own, doing her own thing and just existing. That was easier than most things that she could be doing. Stretching herself out and resting her head on the cold stone wall behind her, Dani lifted her cigarette up to her mouth, taking a long drag before setting it down again.

Rain was falling heavily outside the castle and of course, Daria had gotten caught in it. Standard stuff in the young Gryffindor’s life. That kind of luck just seemed to run in the family. Honestly, the girl wouldn’t even be able to tell you why she was outside on such a crappy day in the first place. She couldn’t remember. Situations like this, waking up in a completely different place then what you last remembered, seemed to be becoming more frequent. Maybe this was a bad thing, but it didn’t really bother the girl. Sure, it was weird waking up with your cheek pressed against the outer wall of the castle in the pouring rain, but hey, she wasn’t dead. If anything, she felt a wave of nausea when she stood up, her knees were a bit stiff and buckled slightly beneath her. She pressed her hands to the stone to steady herself until the dizziness passed over. It took a few minutes, but the girl was eventually able to lift her head without feeling like she was about to vomit.
Daria slowly made her way back into the castle and up the steps. Everytime the staircase decided to move, the girl gripped the handrail and muttered curses under her breath. There was no way that she was making it up to the Tower without puking or giving up and just sitting on the steps, so she decided to take the shortcut and traverse the sixth floor to the other side of the castle. Well, it wasn’t shorter, but it avoided most of the moving staircases, which was ideal at that particular moment. The sixth floor was basically always empty. There were no important class there; half of the rooms were probably being used for storage anyway. Step by slow step, the girl walked down the corridor. She saw Dani sitting on the floor, a cigarette held between her lips. Ah. A good reason to stop and take a breather. The girl leaned her back against the wall across from Dani and slid down until her ass was on the floor. She stretched her legs out in front of her, the corners of her mouth curled into a hazy smile. “Hey, Dani,” she said. Her voice was a bit groggy. Dani was one of the people that the Gryff could tolerate. In fact, they were quite good friends at times. Eyeing the cigarette in her hand, she inhaled the fumes in the air. The girl’s addiction smashed into her like a freight train. Daria brushed some of her wet hair out of her face, with the other hand, she patted down her pockets for her cigs, but only found her lighter. Damn. Again with the shitty luck, always having one and not the other. She looked over at the Ravenclaw. “You have another cig?”

Maybe in the future, you're gonna come back The only way to really know is to really let it go
Dani hadn't been expecting to run into anyone there in the corridor, since it was quite the abandoned place to be, so when she heard footsteps coming towards her, her head swiveled quickly to see who it was. Honestly, she didn't mind having people come along. As long as it wasn't a prefect or a professor looking to throw another detention her way, than Dani was more than happy to chat with whoever showed up. Even when she wasn't high, Dani was the kind of girl that liked to just talk. It didn't matter what about, she just liked to have people around that were willing to have a conversation. She was very much a people person, so she was quite pleased when she saw Daria turning into the corridor and coming her way. They were pretty good mates and Dani knew that Daria was always good for some fun when she came around, so it was bound to be a good afternoon.
Her head bobbing up to face Daria as the other girl sat down, Dani nodded a quick hello. "Dariaaa, you knew I was here and came to visit. Best mate ever," Dani grinned. She doubted that this was the reason Daria was there, but it was nice to think that it was the case. Leaning in forward from the wall, Dani inhaled again on the cigarette, blowing out to her side so that it didn't blow over towards Daria. Even if Dani didn't have the best of etiquette most of the time, she at least had the decency not to blow smoke in people's faces. Though, she knew that Daria was a smoker too, so she rather doubted that the girl would be overly pissed off about it. They had pretty much become friends through their mutual addictions, which probably wasn't the best basis for a friendship, but it worked for the two of them.
At her question, Dani fished about in her pocket for a moment, pulling out a pack of cigarettes a second later. "Of course. Never without them," she nodded, sliding the pack across the hallway and over towards Daria. Dani had never been the stingy sort of person that wouldn't share their smokes or anything else like that. She was always more than happy to share with whoever was around, since it wasn't like she had to worry about running out. She was always able to go out and pick up more if there was a crisis. Which, obviously if there was ever a time where she ran out, would be an absolute crisis. "How've you been? Haven't seen you around much," Dani asked, starting off a conversation. Dani was usually so caught up in her own little world that she rarely found the time to keep up with all the people that she hung out with. Casual friendships where she ran into people now and then were more her style.
Probably not the best way to go about life, but it wasn't like Dani had all that many good decisions to look back on, so what was one more bad one? Besides, she was probably going to end up somewhere completely different from the majority of the people there in the school, since most of them had goals and dreams. Dani just wanted to live somewhere quiet and get high. Her parents rather hated it, since her older sister had done well for herself and her younger brother was looking like he would be going places, but Dani honestly just didn't give a fuck. Maybe someday she'd grow up, learn her lesson, something like that, but so far that wasn't looking like a real possibility. She was still flighty as hell, didn't do much of anything and was almost always high, so her prospects for a good future job were pretty much nonexistent.

Daria smiled hazily, not entirely sure what the Ravenclaw had said. She was still trying to regain her bearings on things, basically almost sleepwalking through the castle, except for the fact that she was most definitely awake, maybe not entirely though. “Mhmm. Sure,” she said in reply, slowly sitting down on the floor across from Dani. She didn’t mind talking to the girl at all. It was just that the corridor was still spinning and she felt as if she would tip over at any second. She tilted her head back against the cold stone wall and closed her eyes for a moment, filling her lungs with the stale, smoky air. Her cravings, her addictions, slowly crept up on her, urging her, pushing her, to find something.
The Gryffindor was super relieved when she heard the sliding of a pack of cigarettes across the stone floor. “Thanks,” she said, opening her eyes and smiling slightly, reaching for the pack. She slid one out and placed it between her lips, using her own lighter to light it. Daria took a long drag, letting the smoke linger in her lungs and quell the nausea she was feeling momentarily before releasing it up into the air. She was pretty grateful to have Dani as a friend, she just always seemed to be there when she needed her. She slid the pack back across the hall.
“I’ve been alright, I guess. I’ve been losing things more often than before though,” she pulled the cig out of her mouth to continue speaking. “Yeah, I honestly couldn’t tell you where I’ve been,” a chuckle escaped her lips causing the nausea to resurface, another drag, “I just woke up in the rain with my cheek pressed to the outer castle wall,” a shrug. “Definitely not the most ideal situation, but I’ll take it.” Another drag. With the way she was smoking, she would be finished with the cigarette in under five minutes. That’s not good. Her blue eyes looked up from the floor and across the hallway. “What about you? Did I miss anything exciting?”

Maybe in the future, you're gonna come back The only way to really know is to really let it go By the looks of it, Daria was already pretty out of it, which Dani was slightly jealous of. Usually by this time of the day she'd be so far gone that nothing really would have mattered to her. Unfortunately, that didn't happen that afternoon for whatever reason. However, sometimes it wasn't so bad to be in a semi-normal state of mind, so Dani wasn't going to complain. Besides, if Daria needed some serious help, than it was probably a good thing that at least one of them was cleaned up enough to get it. Though, Dani was sure that within a few moments of getting her smoke on, Daria would turn out to be just fine. She knew what it was like to really just need to smoke something, so she could understand if Daria was feeling less than fantastic at the moment.
Nodding slightly to Daria, Dani caught the pack as they slid back over towards her. Figuring they would probably end up going through more than just the one's that they had, Dani left the lot of them within reaching distance. Dani, more than most of the people in the school, could sympathize with not knowing where the hell she was half the time. She knew it was stupid, reckless, unhealthy and wrong, but she didn't give a fuck. For whatever reason, she just liked to smoke. It made her feel better, even though she didn't feel particularly bad about anything, really. "Yeah, keeping track of where I am is way too much work, bro. That's impressive though. Can't say I've done that before," she replied with a chuckle. Definitely, she didn't get that bad. Though, she had a feeling that if she didn't have someone constantly watching over her, she probably would get to that point. Frequently.
Thinking on it for a moment, Dani simply shrugged in response. Honestly, her life wasn't all that interesting. She smoked, she skipped classes and occasionally she went to detention or something, but other than that it was a pretty boring life. Though, Dani wouldn't consider it boring at all. Low key, sure, but not boring. Dani enjoyed what she did, even if it wasn't always super action packed like a lot of people's lives. That was just how the girl was though. She enjoyed just living without any concerns or worries. "Ah, you know. Mostly the same as usual. Jacked some alcohol with Prim the other day from the Hog's Head. That was pretty tight," she nodded, smiling a bit at the thought of it. Dani wasn't necessarily a troublemaker, but there were plenty of times where trouble seemed to follow her.

“I’ve never woken up in that particular spot before. It is nowhere near the weirdest place I have, though. Just a bit disorienting, yanno?” Daria spoke, holding the lit cigarette between two of her fingers. It was good that she could talk to Dani without being judged for her bad habits. Most people would just shake their heads in shame as she walked back to the dorms to clean up, but not Dani. They were friendly enough to share their experiences, bonding through the smoke wafting from their cigarettes, sharing the tales of their misadventures. This was certainly one of those times.
Daria nodded approving her friend’s actions. “Mm. Good choice there. And you didn’t get caught? I’d have to say that’s quite impressive.” Definitely a ballsy move on their part, another reason for their friendship. Taking another long drag, the girl looked up at the ceiling, examining the fine cracks and patterns as though it was a grand masterpiece in an art gallery. She smiled hazily. The spliff she had smoked earlier had obviously not worn off yet, which was unusual, even for her. Daria didn’t seem to notice either, not that she was even in a state to realize it.
The girl’s eyes traced along one crack to another, zigzagging its way down the wall to the window above where Dani was sitting. A bird with coal-black feathers and beady red eyes perched on the sill. Daria cocked her head to one side, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion as she watched it hop down from the ledge and across the thin corridor towards her. She scrambled, curling up against the wall. The bird continued closer until it was crawling up her side, each time it took a step, its claws would penetrate her skin. Instead of blood, sand began to pour out. Daria scrambled to her feet, her cigarette falling to the ground. Her knees were unable to support her weight, causing her to flop to the ground, landing on her hands and knees. The palm of her right hand snuffed out the lit cigarette. A burning pain spread across her hand. Daria looked down to see the fire progressing up her arm as sand poured out of the holes in her limbs, piling up on the ground beneath her. Another shriek, her eyes lighting up in complete horror. “Make it stop! Make it stop!” She begged, flailing her arms in all directions, flinging the sand across the hallway.

Maybe in the future, you're gonna come back The only way to really know is to really let it go
It didn't surprise Dani in the least that Daria had woken up in stranger places. Sometimes the girl was worse than she was, which was saying quite a bit. Though, in all honesty, if Dani didn't have people there looking out for her when she was off partying or getting high, than she would have been a hell of a lot worse off than she was now. "Yeah, man. Weird shit happens all the time and I don't even know," she agreed, shaking her head slightly as she spoke. There was always something crazy that happened while she was out of it that she didn't remember in the least once she was back to normal and that never really seemed to bother her. All in all, Dani was just the kind of person that didn't give a damn about much. She knew that she probably should care, but she simply didn't. There was no reason for it, she just hadn't ever really had the ability to care much about things in her life. She was never depressed or anything of the sort and even came off as extremely cheerful most of the time, she just didn't care.
As far as she could remember, they hadn't gotten caught and managed to get away with a decent supply of alcohol for their efforts. Though, her memory of the whole ordeal was a tad bit hazy, considering she had been smoking up a joint just before she had left. "Nah, 'course not. I'm not dumb enough to get caught," she retorted with a shake of her head. Obviously she was a Ravenclaw for a reason, even if she didn't often put her natural intelligence to work. She rarely did anything stupid, but mainly she was just so far out of it that she didn't realize what she was saying or doing. So, sometimes stupid things happened to the girl, even if she would have known better were she more cognizant of what was going on around her. "It was cool, though. You'll have to come with me next time. You're the one that's s'posed to do all the crazy Gryffindor things," she added, looking over at Daria with a bemused smirk.
Her smirk, however, quickly started to falter when she saw Daria looking rather confused and out of it. Well, more out of it than the pair was used to, rather. When Daria started to freak out, though, Dani started to worry a bit. She was used to some pretty bizarre behaviour, but this was definitely weird, even for her standards. Presumably, however, the other girl had to be seeing things, since Dani was pretty sure nothing was happening. Not sure what to do about the situation, Dani hesitantly got up from where she had been sitting to walk over towards the girl. "Uh, do you want to go to the like, hospital wing or something?" she asked, standing just off to the side of where Daria was freaking out. There were probably a hundred better ways to handle the situation, but it wasn't like Dani was the best of "situation handlers" and definitely wasn't the person you wanted around in a crisis.
