Ever since she had been a little girl, Seraphine had been dancing. There wasn't anything she loved more than losing herself in the music. The moment she could stand, she'd been swaying and bopping to whatever song was playing on the radio. Her birth mother had said that she was her little dancing fairy. But it wasn't until she turned five and attended her first ballet class that her love for dance really blossomed. Sera remembered those first few weeks well. Even at five years old, she'd taken very strongly to the dance form. At six she remembered her dance teacher saying that she had been born to dance and that, when she was older, she should consider a career as a professional ballerina. Sera had been positively thrilled with the idea and spent the next few months parading around in a pink ballerina outfit, her hair pulled back into a small bun.
It wasn't until she turned seven and was put into foster care that dancing went from something that she wanted to show the world, to something intensely personal. Something she didn't want anyone to see her do. Dancing became an escape, a coping mechanism when life became a little too much to handle. Of course dancing never fixed anything, but it sure did help having a way to express her sometimes confused and conflicted emotions. Sometimes though, Sera danced because she wanted to. Not because she was scared or sad or angry. Not to cope, but because she remembered a time when she danced simply because it was fun.
Sat on the wooden floor of a ballet studio, Sera was currently stretching out her legs in order to loosen up her limbs. She'd been in the Room of Requirement for over an hour now, practicing a new set that she had been working on a couple of months back and had only just started up again. Obviously as there were no dance studios at Hogwarts and nowhere else to practice, not without doing it in public at least, the RoR was the best place for her to dance> Especially since the RoR became and offered whatever it was you needed. Another great thing was that not a lot of people knew how or where to find it, which meant she could dance uninterrupted. Only once had she been disturbed and that was when a Gryffindor had come in desperately needing the toilet but too far away from one to go. Now that had been an awkward moment, especially when Sera had to wait outside whilst the boy went about his business. She hadn't felt right dancing in the RoR after he'd spent a good half hour in there, so she had finished her practice up early.
Standing up with a swiftness and grace only carried by a dancer, Sera bent over to adjust her pale legwarmers, pulling them up over her tights and leaving them to rest just above her knee. After that she reached up and stretched out her arms and back before walking over to the old record player to turn on her music. As a soft melody began to fill the air, Sera walked back to the center of the room and faced the large mirror on the wall. Closing her eyes she breathed out a soft and steady breath before allowing the music to guide her limbs, pulling her body and mind deep into its rhythm. It was a funny feeling, giving yourself over so completely to something like that and probably not something many people could understand, but Sera loved it.

The Slytherin commons room was hardly the place to stay when you wanted to get away from people for awhile. Despite the sometimes less than friendly nature of many of it's members, the Slytherins commons often had a fair amount of foot traffic passing through and that afternoon, Eliwood wanted nothing to do with it. Granted, there was rarely an occasion where he could honestly say he wanted to participate, but he was usually much more able to tolerate the people around him. For whatever reason that afternoon, though, he wasn't. There was nothing in particular that may have triggered his foul mood, it just kind of came upon him. It wasn't uncommon for him to have spells like such, though, so he didn't think anything of it.
He did, however, think quite a bit about where he was going to run off to and get away from the crowds for awhile. Hogsmeade wasn't much of an option, since that was busier than perhaps even the commons room and he wasn't a nature person at all, so he wasn't about to go outside or something like that. The only other place that came to mind was the Room of Requirement. While it was a decent choice of places to hide out, there was always the unfortunate possibility that something might be going on in there or that someone else already had hold of the place. Eliwood deemed it a necessary risk and figured it was worth the shot. Besides, if whoever was there was younger or in any way pathetic, he was confident that he could scare them off with a few cross words. He could be intimidating when he wanted to be and right now he wanted to be.
Taking only his wand with him, Eliwood slipped past the other Slytherins and began his ascent to the Room of Requirement. It was a fairly long trek, compared to most of the other places in the castle, so he was even more irritated by the time he arrived. Perhaps he should have thought that out before leaving the confines of the dungeons. His face mirrored his less than pleasant mood as he started to pace in front of the wall where the Room of Requirement would appear. Grasping the knob of the door, he gave it a short twist before pulling it open and entering into the room. It was apparent to Eliwood as soon as he got in that the room was not what he had wanted, meaning someone had already taken charge of it's structure. Already a poor start to what was shaping up to be a lost cause of an adventure. That fact paled, however, in comparison to the fact that the person he had stumbled upon was none other than Seraphine Padalecki.
Of all the people that the boy could have come across, she was the last person that he wanted to see. Honestly, he would have happily accepted a meeting with a troll or a dragon over seeing Sera again. They were siblings, yes, but he loathed that fact more than anything .There was something about her that drew him in, made him want nothing more than to be around her and protect her, but he couldn't. Any feelings that he had for the girl would be utterly wrong and so he had to surpress them. Even if he hated having to do so, he had no choice in the matter. At least, that was how Eliwood saw it. Masking his feelings in hatred had become so common place by now that it took little effort to muster up an even more nasty scowl. "People need to use this place for something worthwhile," he grumbled. "How about you get the hell out and put some real clothes on, yeah?" What he wanted to say? No. What he had to say? Absolutely.

As the music played on, Seraphine continued her dance. Gliding across the floor she gracefully twisted and turned one step into the next pulling off moves only that only a trained and professional dancer could master. She was deep into the music and her dancing when another person entered the room and it wasn't until the boy was halfway through whatever it was he was saying that Seraphine spotted her, mid-twirl, and stumbled to a stop. "E-Eli!" her voice quivered, high and breathless. Any sort of smile or welcome that had been forming on her lips, slipped away as he finished speaking. Get the hell out and put some real clothes on? Seraphine couldn't hide the flash of embarassment and hurt that registered across her face. Not only had he walked in on her dancing but, as usual and for reasons unknown to the hufflepuff, he was being a complete arse with her. "I'm sorry, I was just.." she began but trailed off uncomfortably under his intense and hostile stare. The look he was giving her was enough to make her face flush and her eyes dart to the floor. Sera found it hard to make eye contact with Eli on most days, because whenever she did, he'd glare at her. But today he seemed even angrier than usual, which wasn't good for her. It meant that there was no point in trying to be nice to him because there wasn't a chance he'd return it. Not that he ever did but sometimes he just sort of ignored her and that was the nicest he ever was.
Brushing a somewhat shaky hand over her hair, pressing any stray wisps back against her head, Seraphine distracted herself by heading over to the old record player and stopping the music. A part of her wanted to be angry, because really? who did think he was, storming in here and telling her to get out? And what was wrong with her outfit? A pale leotard with tights and leg warmers, it was normal dance gear for a ballerina. She should tell him to leave, that she'd been here first and that he wasn't going to bully her out of the RoR. Except Seraphine never had been the angry type. She was the type who bottled things and let them build and build until she felt like she might explode. That was when she'd dance. Besides she didn't want things to get any worse between herself and Eliwood, even despite how much he seemed to hate her. He was her brother now, after all, she had to try and keep things as civil as possible. For her parents sake and her own.
"You don't have to be so cruel, you know." she said and pursed her lips together. It was probably the wrong thing to say, would probably make him even more angry. But really, what did he expect? There were only so many sneers, glares and harsh comments she could take before she said something back. Just because she wanted to keep things civil didn't mean she was all that happy to sit back and let the boy walk all over her. But because she was scared that what she'd said would start some kind of arguement or insult throwing, she quickly went on. "Mum and dad want us to come home for christmas this year. Will you come?"

Watching the girl stumble to a stop when she finally realized his presence there brought a shadow of a laugh to the boy's face. He hadn't made that quiet of an entrance and had made a fair amount of noise slamming the door shut behind him, so Sera must really have been entranced by her dancing to have taken that long to realize that he was standing there talking to her. His momentary amusement, however, flickered back into his typical scowl when he saw the look on her face. He didn't want to hurt her, but that was precisely what his comment had done and it sickened him. He tried to tell himself that he didn't have a choice and that he had to be like that towards her, but sometimes it just ended up hurting himself more than anything. She was one of the few people that he'd met in life that he didn't absolutely despise and yet here he was pushing her away and making her believe that she was just the same as anyone else to him. That hardly seemed fair to the boy. "Just what?" he questioned, a threatening tone to his voice. He probably wouldn't have actually done anything to physically get her to leave, but he certainly made it seem like he was willing to do just about anything to get the space to himself. It was just a matter of if Sera would buy in to his act of intimidation or not.
Slouching over, Eliwood ambled over towards the far wall and leaned up against it with his back. Sliding down into a seated position, Eliwood rested his head back into the wall and closed his eyes. It was far from comfortable, but it was the best he was going to get in the current set-up the room had. He just hoped Sera would leave fairly quickly and leave him to himself there so that he could do the room up any which way he pleased. That, and it would get her away so that he didn't have to think about her. His avoiding of her was usually fairly easy to accomplish, since they were in different houses and generally had nothing to do with each other otherwise, but when he happened upon her in a room like that, it was just plan unfair. Clearly, the world was just out to make him even more bitter than he already was by tempting him with something that he couldn't have. That’s what was cruel, not his actions and words. He was just reacting to the situation that had been thrust upon him, as far as he was concerned. ”Or, I’ll just do whatever I want,” he retorted, his tone of voice still revealing his displeasure with the situation. Even if she didn’t leave, he planned to make himself as unpleasant as possible with the hopes that she would just get sick of it and leave him be.
As if it couldn’t get any worse, Sera brought up the holidays. If there was anything that Eliwood could honestly say he hated more than any other thing, it would be the holidays. Everyone went around so happy about it and in such good moods and Eliwood couldn’t share in those feelings. For Eli, it was just another time to realize how much he didn’t have in life compared to other people. ”I’m busy,” he shrugged. He hadn’t yet thought about what he intended to do over break, but he knew that he didn’t want to spend it with the Padalecki’s. He didn’t much mind his parents, but with Sera there it would end up turning into another torturous few weeks and he didn’t want to put himself through something like that. Eli didn’t really have any friends to go stay with, however, so that probably wouldn’t have worked out much either. Staying at the school, while not something he wanted to do, seemed to be the least painful of the choices at hand. He could just hole himself up in his dorm, which would likely be fairly empty, and sit around doing absolutely nothing with his time. Then maybe for Christmas day he could go down to Hogsmeade and drink himself into a good mood over at the Hog’s Head. ”Goin’ somewhere else or somethin’,” he added, just to try and make it seem more plausible.

Honestly, Seraphine couldn't understand what she'd ever done to Eliwood that made him hate her so much. Sure he seemed to dislike everyone but sometimes it seemed he disliked Sera even more than anyone else. When they'd first met, Sera had done everything in her power to get him to warm to her, but it hadn't worked. He'd been angry at everyone and everything and Sera thought it was heartbreaking, how could one person feel so much hate and anger? It was no secret that he'd had the most troubled childhood. Sera didn't know the details exactly but their parents had told them, just before Eliwood joined the family, that he'd had a mixed up and troubled upbringing and that he might be a little closed off and distant. So Sera had thought his hostile attitude was because of that and not because he had some personal thing against her. But as time passed it actually did seem that he disliked her, just because.
To begin with she'd wondered if his dislike for her was because she was muggle born and he a pureblood. But, as far as she knew, Eli hadn't been brought up in an elitist pureblood environment so she doubted that was it. Then she thought that maybe she was just annoying him with her constant attention, so she laid off a little, deciding to give him some breathing space. Although her intentions had been good, maybe what Eli needed wasn't constant attention to show that she welcomed him into the family and that she cared. Maybe he just needed space and time to adjust. But even after she'd given him time, he still treated her as though she was something nasty stuck to the bottom of his shoe. It was upsetting because for some reason, Seraphine wanted him to like her. Even despite the way he acted, he was obviously just a lost and confused boy who had been through way too much hurt in his life already. If Sera had gone through what he had, who's to say she wouldn't be just as bitter and angry as Eli? If that was the case then she'd definitely want someone there for her, to show her that life isn't all that bad. That you don't have to be so angry and untrusting. That you can be happy. She very much doubted that Eli would ever admit to wanting someone to show him these things, he'd probably declare that he'd be better off alone. But Seraphine knew that deep down he must crave happiness and love as much as the next person. He's only human after all.
It's this thinking that always reminds her to give Eli a chance, to keep trying because although he acts angry, when she watches him, she swears she sees just another sad and broken boy. So ignoring the fact that he clearly wanted her to leave, Seraphine walked over to Eli and sat down beside him, though she kept a rather wide space between them so he wouldn't get too annoyed, though he probably would anyway. "The Holidays with the Padalecki's aren't bad, y'know." she said converstationally, keeping her gaze trained forward. "It's actually pretty relaxed. There's dinner and we watch movies and play board games. It's nice." she chatted on as if the person next to her wasn't wishing she'd just get lost. "But if you have other plans then i suppose that's fine. I think it might upset mr and mrs Padalecki though. They make alot of effort for us this time of year. I'd like it-" she started before she'd realized what she'd begun to say and corrected herself. "we'd all like it if you came." she hardly doubted he'd care all that much if she said that she'd like it if he came, although she very much would.

At first, Eliwood had thought that he was getting through to Sera and that she would leave him be to brood in isolation. That hope was quickly dashed when she came over towards him and sat down. She didn't sit too close to him, which he was thankful for, but the fact that she was still there didn't bring any thankful feelings from him. Obviously, she didn't understand that her being around him just made things worse. He needed time to get over whatever feelings he was having for her and that would require a lot of distance between them. Eliwood feared that even the distance wouldn't work, however, since there was no logical reason for him to feel like he did. Obviously it was all some sick joke being played on him by the universe and he didn't much appreciate it.
Listening as she spoke, Eliwood kept his attention focused on the floor in front of him, not even looking over at Sera in the least. He knew that would just make the moment all the more miserable and he didn't see any reason for doing that to himself. The fact that she was able to keep the conversation so utterly light when it was obvious that he wanted nothing to do with it drove him crazy. She at least should realize that he just wanted to be grumpy and not deal with her. "Yeah, well. Whatever. You guys can have your nice relaxed holiday all to yourself," he muttered with another irate scowl. It did sound rather nice, to be honest, but Eliwood knew that even if it was a relaxed time, he would find a way to let his feelings for Sera get in the way of that. He didn't want to mess up the others' holiday.
Even if Eliwood was as nasty as they came, he actually cared about his adoptive parents. They were the only people to have taken him in and treat him like a son that they cared about and even if he didn't say it, he appreciated it. That made it exceptionally difficult for him to deem it acceptable to just skip out on the whole holidays thing, as he didn't want to upset them. "I don't know. Maybe Christmas day or something I can be there," he shrugged, making it sound as if it were a very arduous task to accomplish. Just one day spent at home wouldn't be too terrible and he would feel better that he wasn't completely blowing off his new parents. He had made them a small gift that he wanted to give them anyways, so he could likely deal with one day. Hopefully.

A frown marred Sera's features at Eli's initial dismissal. Why was he so against joining them for the holidays? The urge to ask him, just what was so awful about having to spend Christmas with the Padalecki's, was so powerful that Sera curled in her lips to stop any unwanted words involuntarily slipping out. The question would no doubt irritate Eliwood further and that was the very opposite of what Seraphine wanted right now. Instead, she carried on talking about how christmas with the Padalecki's wasn't all that bad and that they'd all really like it if he were to join them.
It was hard to hold back the large smile that danced across her lips when Eli said that he'd maybe show up for christmas. "That's great!" she commented, finally gaining the courage to look at him. "Everyone would really like that. I know the Padalecki's would love for you to come." she rambled on, clearly happy that she'd managed to work her way into Eli's defences a little and have him agree to spend some time with the family. Even if it was only for a day, It was better than nothing. "Besides you have to show up to open your presents." she grinned before hopping up to her feet. "I guess I'll leave you to it then." she said, deciding it might be best to leave Eli to himself for now. Having the boy agree to join them for a day over the holidays was a huge achievement and Sera really didn't want to ruin the moment by hanging around longer than necessary since he clearly didn't want her here.
Moving over to where she'd left her bag besides the mirror, Sera bent to tidy away her things. Once she'd packed her school bag up, she headed over to where she'd left the old record player and began to pack that away too. It took her a few minutes before she was back over to the other side of the room, picking up her discarded bag. Turning around, she didn't notice the pool of clear liquid on the hardwood floor, (water from a drink she'd accidentally spilled earlier and had forgotten to clean) so she couldn't regain her balance when she stepped forward and slipped, falling back onto the wooden floor in a jumbled heap.

The cheerfulness that Sera showed when he finally agreed to spend at least a day with them brought a wave of conflicing emotions from Eliwood. On one hand, he liked to see her smile, especially on his account, but on the other hand he knew that it was probably bad for the both of them in the long run. "Well, good. Only for a day though, cause' I've got a lot to take care of and stuff," he reminded her with a frown. Even if he had agreed to spend time there, that didn't mean he was going to be all too pleasant about it. Letting himself get into a good mood would make the situation that much more dangerous, since he would be less inclined to be rude to Sera. Keeping himself on his toes and being a jerk to her, in his opinion, was the only way to ensure that his feelings stayed repressed.
He did have to admit that the sound of an actual family Christmas was appealing, even if it did mean that he would be stuck around Sera for the entirety of the day, or however long he chose to be there. The fact that he was getting gifts, though, did make up for it slightly, since he hadn't ever really had a Christmas with gifts before. "Yeah, well, I guess I'll be there to get them or whatever. Am I supposed to get something for everyone else too?" he asked, not at all liking the sound of that. For the other siblings, he had done absolutely nothing. Even if he didn't mind a few of them, if he got a gift for some of them, than he would have felt that he needed to get something for all of them and that would have meant shopping for Sera.
When, finally, the girl decided that she was going to leave him be, Eliwood let out an audible sigh of relief. He could now have the place to himself and he could take a nap or something. Not very exciting, but Eliwood didn't have much in the way of interests aside from cars and smoking. Keeping a loose gaze on her as she started to move about the room to pack up her things, Eliwood rose from where he was standing so that he could immediately change the room to his preferences when she departed. He wasn't going to get to do that anytime soon, though, since as soon as he turned his head away from her and towards the door, he felt a sickening crash to the floor. Turning, Eli's instincts took over and he immediately went to her side, bending down to check on her. "You alright?" he asked, automatically. Having lived in a home where it wasn't uncommon to have a family member crashing to the floor in a bloodied heap or a drunken stupor, Eli just automatically responded to the noise now.

"You don't have to." Was the reply Sera gave Eli when he asked if he'd have to get other people presents. To be honest he didn't seem like the present buying type. That was the last thing Sera had said before she'd slipped and fallen to the floor. The moment her body hit the ground a low moan escaped from her lips and tears immediately sprung to her eyes. A dull pain echoed its way around her body but it was nothing compared to the sharp, stabbing pain slicing it's way through her ankle. "Ah.." she slowly lifted herself up as Eli joined her, she did a double take when she glanced up at him, not quiet believing the genuine concern on his face. It was the first time he'd ever shown any other emotion towards besides annoyance and anger. "Y-yes." she mumbled, turning her eyes away to look at her ankle when another stab of pain made itself known. "I think I'll be alright.." she said behind a wince and began to shift so that she could stand.
Once she'd clambered to her feet, Sera turned to face Eli and gave him a goofy grin, as if she found the whole thing funny. She didn't want him to see that she was still very much in pain, she had a feeling that coming across as weak would just annoy him further and she really didn't want that. "I'll swing by the Hospital wing, but I'm sure it's nothing." she gave him another watery smile before slowly bending to grab her bag. Slinging it back over her shoulder, Sera gave Eli a goodbye nod and turned to leave the RoR. She only made it six steps before the pain of putting weight onto her left foot became too much. Letting out a sharp gasp, Sera immediately lifted her foot from the ground, unable to stop the tears from rolling down her cheeks this time. "Could you help me out?" she asked, already feeling dejected because she had a feeling that he'd say no or get even more angry with her. "Or you could get a nurse?" she was sat on the floor again now, her head hung because she couldn't have felt any more of an idiot than she did right now.
