Ruby Warrington finished organizing the stacks of papers into separate piles according to department. Her mind was frazzled and she had a lot to accomplish in such a small amount of time. Sorting papers was only a small task compared to the visits she had to make later. The ministry sent her all over England and sometimes beyond to places like Italy and France. The traveling was nice, but she wished she had time while she was there to actually enjoy the culture, but instead, the minister had her running around with her thumb up her ass trying to get things done.
Her green eyes flashed at the clock. It was late afternoon and a lunch break was way overdue. Many times, Ruby thought about saying “Fuck it” to her work and just tossing all of the papers into the air, but she just couldn’t bring herself to do it. She had worked way too hard to just throw it all away and she was only nineteen. Normal girls her age went out and got drunk without a care in the world, while Ruby, on the other hand went out to get drunk to release the stress and went to work the next morning with the consequences.
She needed a break before she fell asleep at her desk and the papers started finding themselves in the wrong piles. Ruby put everything down, grabbed her bag off of the floor beneath her desk and took her jacket off the hook. She had to escape before someone found something else for her to do and was guaranteed at least a dozen messages before her return. The girl promised herself that she wouldn’t answer her phone while she was out. If someone wanted something, they would have to wait for her to get back.
Ruby walked out of the office and down the block, her heels clicked against the sidewalk. The odors of the busy city streets wafted around her. A few blocks away, there was a coffee shop that the girl often went to. She loved to sit there and cool down, let her mind loose for a while before going back to work. Ruby stood on the short line for a few minutes before she looked up at the barista, who she greeted with a warm smile. They said hello and verified her usual order. The girl stepped to the side and ran her fingers through her wavy, fire colored hair as she waited for her coffee.

Every aspect of Alphonso Luciano Delle Torre infuriated his father, Luciano Raphael Delle Torre, and that was the way he liked it. Everything his father wanted him to do, he did the opposite. His father wanted him to job well-praised ministry job? Well, he got a ministry job, just not well-praised. His father wanted him to date some well-off heiress, he dated one. Just it was more like a fling than a serious relationship. Everything about him angered his father and that was exactly what he intended on continuing, but today his father decided that this entire week would be dedicated to Alphonso turning his life around and becoming a ‘proper’ son, as if that would happen.
The moment he was allowed to leave and be free, he ran. He had no intention of sticking around. The paper work, the phone calls, the phony pleasantries. It was all to much for Alphonso which led to him entering a little cafe. It was quaint and nice, but what really caught his attention was a certain red head. A girl he had flirted with before, what was her name? Something Warrington? Well, whatever he name was he’d get it out of her again.
Walking over to the rather short line and after a few minutes of waiting he was able to order an espresso and quickly walked over to where the girl stood. Tilting his head to the left he playful asked the most commonly spoken pick up line, Have I met you before? He knew it was annoying for most girls to hear that, or at least thats what some of his friends who were girls told him, but he could not help it. He wanted fun and the last time the two spoke she was quite entertaining.

Ruby tapped her fingers on the counter top as she waited for her coffee. She could only last so long without it. It kept her running throughout her busy days and up through the night if needed. Coffee was like a drug that the freckle faced girl had become addicted to. She was dependent on it. With all of the running back and forth between departments and all of the unpleasant, grumpy adults that she had to deal with on a day to day basis, she had to keep herself functional. She had to be pleasant, because if she wasn’t, the ministry would have her delivering mail all day, which was not what she was aiming to do. Ruby hoped to head a department, maybe the Department of International Magical Cooperation. It was a respectable position, but above all, she would be given the chance to travel outside of England. Just a few days ago, her boss had chosen her to attend a meeting in Italy. The city they were in was absolutely stunning and them men were equally as gorgeous.
The coffee that she had ordered was set down. Ruby gave the cashier the necessary coins, took her drink and turned on her heel to find a place to sit. Holding the cup up to her lips, she took a sip, watching as a man walked toward her. He looked familiar, but she couldn’t exactly place him. It was at the tip of her tongue. “I don’t think so,” she said softly, furrowing her eyebrows slightly. The voice. It sounded so familiar, taking a minute before it hit her. “Wait. International Magical Cooperation meeting in Rome last week?” she raised an eyebrow. Yes, that was where she had seen his face before. He was the cute one that kept making faces at her. He was quite a distraction and Ruby didn’t know if she wanted to punch him or praise him for taking her mind off of work for a bit. “I’m Ruby Warrington,” she introduced herself and stuck out her unoccupied hand to shake. “I’m on break, would you care to join me?” A pleasant smile tugged at the corners of the girl’s mouth as she ran her fingers through her wavy, red hair.

Picking up his drink Al nodded as he said, Yup. That's where we met. I'm Alphonso Delle Terre. Quickly giving the girl a firm handshake he walked over to an empty table for two, but before seating himself he pulled out a chair for Ruby before saying, Your chair m'lady. A jokester and a charmer, that was what many of his female co-workers called Al. But he could not help himself. That was just the way he was.
Though normally in Italy working on a case, his father had decided to drag his son over to England. It was something that did not want to do, but complied with. It kept his father from constantly complaining, but now it was getting better. He had someone he knew, despite the fact he met her through his father she seemed to be unlike the older ministry members he had to deal with day in and day out since he came to England.
Taking a brief and quick sip of his drink, Al asked, So, how have you been since we last met? Though they did not have a formal introduction, the moment the two passed glances, actually more like Al made silly faces instead of stared at the girl. He was certain he had made himself very memorable the first time they met.

A smile couldn’t help but crawl across her flawless pink lips when she remembered where she had seen this guy before. The accent, it just gave it away. “Nice to meet you again,” she said, shaking his hand firmly. She took her coffee and found a table for them to sit at. He pulled her chair out for her, which made her blush in the slightest, barely visible through her densely freckled skin. This guy was almost too charming, if that was even possible. She was used to guys trying too hard around her some of the time, but this guy, he sort of was and he sort of wasn’t.
“Well, I’m not going to lie, it’s been a little frustrating, but at that meeting you were such a distraction, a pleasant one actually, that I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing out,” Ruby chuckled. Alphonso was quite a distraction to her, but she appreciated it nonetheless. She had to take notes and sometimes translate statements for her boss, the Minister of Magic and it was quite the job to do when a particularly attractive Italian man was making faces at you from across the room. At times she just wanted to chuck something at him to make him stop so that she cold concentrate, but at other times she just wanted to rip his clothes off and get with him right there and then. But that would be totally and completely inappropriate. If her boss hadn’t whisked her away directly after the meeting, she would have walked over to him and chatted for a little while, but of course, there was more stuff to be done. "What about on your side? How have things been?"
Ruby took another few sips of her coffee, feeling the effects of the espresso shots wake her up like a slap in the face. She twirled the tip of her long, red hair around her finger, listening to the man as he spoke. She couldn’t help but notice for the second time how good looking he was. He was definitely someone that the girl wanted to chat with for a while and get to know a little better.
