When Mia had first heard that there would be a carnival she'd been thrilled. Carnivals had to be one of her favorite events ever. There was always so much to do and see, she could spend the entire day and night at one and never grow bored. Her excitement had lessened a little when she found out that she'd been paired with Felix Wood. Mia wasn't one to outright judge a person because she truly believed you couldn't and shouldn't until you really knew them. But Felix and people like him weren't exactly Mia's favorite sort of people.
It wasn't something she could explain properly but self-centered people with large ego's, like Felix Wood, just rubbed her the wrong way. This was why she felt a little dread at having to spend the weekend with him. Talan had said that they didn't have to but Mia wasn't entirely sure if they were allowed to just go off and do their own thing and because she wasn't one to break rules, ever, she planned on meeting Felix. If he decided to go off and do his own thing then that was fine, at least she could say that it was him who broke the rules and not her.
Releasing a deep breath, Mia straightened up to view her handiwork. "Okay, everything is in place." She said in a sing-song voice and smiled brightly at the elderly woman she'd been helping throughout the morning. After hearing there would be a carnival Mia had gone about seeing if she could volunteer. There was usually always something to do when a large carnival was coming to town and since she happened to love carnivals and helping out, it seemed the perfect idea. The elderly woman thanked Mia for her help and offered her two medium sized candy canes which she at first declined but eventually accepted with a smile. "See you later." Mia waved goodbye to the woman and turned to head towards the entrance of the carnival.
Although the carnival had just started it was beginning to fill up rather fast and Mia wondered if Felix had arrived yet. Candy canes in her hand, she stopped just after the entrance so that when Felix entered he'd see her. Really, Mia had no idea what they were going to talk about and doubted they'd get along all that well, but she'd at least try. Even though he wasn't one of her favorite types of people, she was raised to be polite and proper, so she'd just have to grin and bare it. That was if he decided to show. It seemed quite a few people thought that the whole carnival-pairing up idea was a waste of time and a lot of students seemed unwilling to follow through with the Ministry's decree.

To be perfectly honest, the only reason that Talan was showing up to the carnival event was because of Mia. He didn't care for the hustle and bustle of public events like this and certainly he considered such things far below someone of his class. He was meant for much classier events where you wore a suit and tie and looked your absolute best. This, on the other hand, was completely not his style. Not to mention, he was meant to be spending the weekend with Carleigh Stryder and that just wouldn't do. Generally, he didn't mind her since she was a Slytherin and came from a good family, but she was a slut. That just wasn't something that Talan was comfortable to be around all that often and certainly not in a date-like setting. However, he had to come. Obviously he couldn't leave Mia to the likes of Felix Wood. That would be cruel and unusual punishment and he would never do that to his own family.
Not being particularly excited about being stuck in the middle of crowds of people that likely were dirty and complete scum, Talan took his time getting ready. He doubted that Felix would show up on time, if at all, so he wasn't too worried about the kid getting at Mia before he was there to protect her. Though, he was definitely being sure to keep the time at the back of his mind as he got ready, just to be sure he arrived at precisely the right moment. He had no doubt that Mia was probably already there, since she was just too excited and happy about everything to have been sleeping in or anything of the sort. Deciding that he had probably waited long enough, Talan brushed at the front of his coat before leaving from the dungeons.
Unable to apparate from inside the castle grounds, Talan made the short walk over to the exit before leaving from the castle and finding himself at the site of the carnival. As soon as he saw it, a rather displeased look crossed his face. There was already a crowd of people that he most definitely did not belong around and the smell of disgusting, fried foods wafted towards him from the various vendors present. This definitely was not the place for Talan to be. Mia damn well better appreciate how good of a brother he was being. Unable to shake the clearly very unhappy look from his face, Talan walked over to the ticket booth, generally ignoring the whole fact that there was a line and brusquely threw his galleons down to enter into the carnival. They could get over it, he wasn't waiting in a disgusting line such as that.
Luckily for Talan, he didn't have to go about searching for Mia, since it appeared she was over by the entrance waiting for Felix. Well, not anymore she wasn't. Walking over to where she was standing, Talan raised an eyebrow slightly, still not letting a smile break his face. "Hello, Mia. Enjoying yourself?" he asked, looking her over as if he were checking for injuries. Although he was quite protective of his younger sister, it wasn't often that he got to see her. Partially because he was always busy, but also because he didn't want to seem all too overbearing. Well, and because he didn't really care to get out all that often. So, when he did get to see her, he tended to give her a quick once over to make sure that she wasn't broken, pregnant or sad, among other things.

As Mia watched people continue to pass by without a single sign of Felix, she hoped he hadn't just decided to ditch her. Really, if he hadn't wanted to show he could have at least had the decency to send her an owl or some other sort of message. Grumbling to herself because she hadn't even met with the boy and he was already ruining her sunny mood, Mia felt her spirits lift when she spotted Talan heading towards her. "Tal!" she cheered, her face breaking out into a large and happy smile. Mia hadn't expected her brother to make an appearance since he hadn't seemed all that happy with the idea with being at the carnival. Talan being here, even though he hated things like this, made Mia even more happy because it meant that he was making an effort for her.
Felix momentarily forgotten, Mia threw her arms around her brother in a warm embrace. The hug was short lived because she didn't want Talan to feel overly uncomfortable with the public display of affection. "I'm so glad you're here." she smiled, taking a step back. "I didn't think you'd come." It was good to see her brother in the flesh once in a while rather than talking to him through e-messages. Mia decided then that she was going to make more of an effort to see and spend time with her brother, whether he liked it or not. "I've been waiting for Felix." she explained and dipped her head to peer around Talan's body. Her eyes did a quick sweep over the faces entering. Satisfied that she hadn't spotted him, Mia straightened up so that she was facing Talan.
"I'm not too sure he's going to show." her smile dropped a little because the idea of waiting here all day for Felix to make an appearance was not an appealing one. Maybe Talan had been right. Maybe you didn't have to stay in your assigned pairs, maybe it was just a suggestion. "I guess you'll have to be my partner." she flashed Talan a smile and thought that maybe Felix not meeting her was a good thing. It meant she got to spend the entire day with her brother at a carnival. "Here." she thrust her hand forward and offered Talan the spare candy cane she had and gave him a look that told him he'd upset her feelings if he didn't take it. "Where shall we go first?"

Admittedly, Talan wasn't too fond of he whole hugging thing, but because it was Mia he allowed her to excitedly come embrace him, wrapping his arms around her for just a moment before pulling away. Not, perhaps, the most loving of moments, but the whole fact that he was there spoke to the idea that he did care at least a little bit. He did, of course, care a lot about his family, but he rarely showed it. At least, not in ways that most people would interpret as such. Mia, however, he hoped knew that his being there at the carnival meant quite a lot. Certainly, her excitement seemed to confirm that she was quite impressed with his presence there, which he took quite a bit of pride in. Even if he would never admit to it, he liked when he was able to cheer Mia up a bit and make her happy with him.
Talan pushed his hair back as Mia expressed her surprise about his coming, a small smirk appearing on his face. He liked to consider this a small success for himself, since he was doing quite well so far. Obviously, family relationships were something important if he intended to go far in life, so trying to make things better with Mia was a good step in the right direction. "Well, I couldn't disappoint you, Mia. So, I showed up to make up for the lack of appearance from your ah, pairing," Talan nodded. Of course, if he could make himself look better while also managing to make Felix look worse, he wasn't at all opposed to that. Besides, he didn't want Mia to like Felix all that much, since he certainly didn't harbor any good feelings for the kid, nor did he trust the boy around Mia at all.
The sad look Mia got when she commented that she didn't really know if Felix would show made Talan's blood boil slightly. Even if he didn't like the guy, he didn't want to see Mia upset because of this. However, he was clearly a better choice to be hanging out with Mia for the rest of the afternoon, so Felix could just go find himself someone else. Well, if he even bothered to show up at all. "Lucky for you kid, I have the entire day cleared to spend some time with my favorite younger sister," Talan said with a nod. He didn't think he would have to spend the entire day there, but certainly he would be able to spend a few hours with Mia and satisfy that. Though, perhaps he might actually enjoy himself a bit and the day wouldn't turn out all too badly.
When she offered him a candy cane, Talan looked at it for a moment with a slightly disgusted look. He wasn't the type to really eat sweets ever, but clearly the look Mia was giving him meant very well that he had no choice but to take it. Unwrapping it, he stuck it in his mouth like it was a pipe and left it there between his teeth. "Well, we could go ah, I don't much know what goes on at a carnival, to be perfectly honest," Talan admitted with a bit of a shrug. As far as he knew, he hadn't ever really been to a carnival before, since it was definitely not his scene. "But uh, we could do, you know, whatever you want I guess," he offered. Letting Mia lead him around a carnival could very well turn dangerous, but he could adapt.
