Not going home for the holidays was, and probably always would be, the best decision that AJ could have made for herself. Growing up in a family of twelve children wasn't easy, especially not when everyone was so different and AJ was so intolerant of the lot of them that it made it utterly impossible for her to get along with them. There were a few that she was able to tolerate at least a little, but in general she couldn't stand to be around them. In her sixth year, she had gotten a job and along with her girlfriend, they started renting out an apartment for the two of them. That gave AJ a place to go during the breaks and it made her life entirely more bearable. The stress of the holiday seasons had always been rough on her, but now that she didn't have to go home, she found it to be a rather enjoyable time. More enjoyable, even, than being at school. Not that she cared much for school either, that is.
With the Christmas season passing by quickly, AJ wanted to make the most of the last few days of freedom that she had before going back to school and the dull grind of classes. She certainly didn't mind her classes all too much, but she definitely did mind being around all of her fellow students at Hogwarts. Break meant that she could, for the most part, avoid all of that. She stayed in a lot with her girlfriend, went on the odd adventure to visit a foreign country, and had her work with the Death Squadron and that was really all AJ wanted to do with her time. Honestly, anything that kept her away from people was a good thing, as far as she was concerned. Socializing had never been her favorite of things, that much was obvious. She could turn on a certain charm when she needed to for work, but otherwise she could be a downright bitch.
The break of winter holiday, however, had put her into a relatively good mood, even if she did have to start back to work at the Hog's Head. Sliding out from her side of the bed, AJ bustled around for a moment, gathering her uniform and whatever else she would need for her day at work. She was staying as quiet as possible, just to avoid accidentally waking her girlfriend up. She'd worked the night shift and AJ knew just how exhausting that could be, so she maintained a respectful silence until she was out of the room. It didn't take long to ready herself once she was in the bathroom and less time from there to head down the stairs and out of the small apartment they shared. For convenience sake, their apartment was just a few blocks away from the Hog's Head, in a small corner of the little town of Hogsmeade. It was away enough from the castle that AJ didn't worry about running into her classmates and it was close enough that she could stay there most nights and still be just a short walk away from everything.
Opening the door to the Hog's Head as she arrived, AJ was quite glad to see that it was still too early for most people to be there and clamoring for food and drink. That made her job infinitely easier and meant that she probably would just end up sitting around behind the bar and possibly serving the occasional firewhiskey to a passing hag. It was kind of a disgusting place and there was usually all kinds of shady activity there, but it was perfect for AJ. Most of the clientele were older, meaning she didn't have to deal with all too many kids, and most of them were potentially useful for the Death Squadron. There was always some shady deal going on around the bar and she was able to dial in and listen on everything going on. Sometimes she picked up some useful tips that led to further investigations, sometimes not, but it gave her something useful to do while she was working.
With nothing in particular to busy herself with when she clocked in, AJ took her seat over behind the bar and leaned back against the wall while sitting on the small stool. As of yet, there wasn't anyone interesting around that she could listen in on a conversation of, so that was a bit disappointing, but there also wasn't much work to be done, so she couldn't complain too much. There wasn't anyone else on clock now that she was there, so she didn't have any co-workers to talk to, that usually only happened during the evening shifts, and her boss wasn't around anymore either. Effectively, she was able to do whatever she wanted, since she was the only one working at the time and she didn't have customers to worry about. Not a bad job in the least.
