As of lately Danielle had a hard time getting herself getting out of the Ravenclaw Common room. The past few months she had literally become something close to a hermit, the seventh year welcoming the months of solitude and easy living. Last year she had literally spent almost every single night out of the common room, not returning until the wee hours of the morning and barely able to make it to her bed. She actually remembers a few times she slipped into someone else's bed by mistake - those were good memories. Well, more embarrassing memories then anything else. Danielle grinned at the mere thought, remembering getting yelled at by her fellow sleeping Ravenclaw, she occasionally even throwing up next to their bed. One girl was kind enough to at least take her to the bathroom and hold her hair. Those nights were not missed by little miss Huntington, and even though she missed being a social butterfly she relaxed that a life lived with a book and one or two good friends was always better then living one with people you couldn't really consider friends.
Tonight was a night of wonder and mischief, Danielle feeling the old needs and itches to explore the castle after dark creeping up on her. Tonight was different then majority of the nights she spent out and about in the past, Danielle merely looking for a good place to relax and read her book. Had it been last year she would have been looking for a good secluded place to have a grand old time with a few people. Danielle would have just curled up by the Ravenclaw fireplace to read but she was starting to get something close to cabin fever, the girl sick of the same old scenery and routine that she had been living as of late. She needed a change, Danielle feeling like she was collecting dust by sitting around in the Ravenclaw common room all the time. She basically visited only a few different places as of late - her classes, the great hall, the girls dormitory and the common room. She never ventured out anywhere else which was now starting to become a problem.
So she bundled up nice and warm, wearing a pair of jeans, warm boots, a long sleeve black shirt and a gray light sweater and headed out into the cold atmosphere of the school. She wasn't really sure where she was going, but her tiny feet would lead her to a place of wonder no doubt. Danielle had a black book clenched tightly in her hand, her wand in the other as she snuck through the shadows and corridors, looking for a good place to sit her bum down and continue on with her story. She didn't want to find a place that was too dark, considering she was reading a muggle author who could scare her like no other - Steven King. Danielle loved horror stories, and though she didn't get scared too often this particular book seemed to appeal to the part of her that still wanted to sleep with the nightlight on. Danielle never did well with anything related to aliens, and Dreamcatcher was all about them. So as she wondered the halls absent minded she tried to keep that in mind, a well lit place the best choice for her.
Her feet ended up leading her to the Astronomy tower. She didn't even remember how she got there but once she emerged up top to see the starry night sky she smiled a bit, satisfied. Most certainly not the best place for her to start reading her book again but it seemed Danielle didn't mind. She looked up marveled at the sky at first, Danielle enjoying the view for a few moments before sitting down on the cold stone, her back leaning up against the edge of the tower as she opened up her book, pushing up her large black glasses when she looked down.

As the Head Boy, Talan was out significantly later than most students were allowed to be. He left from the Slytherin dormitories just before it was time for curfew and headed up to the main floor of the castle. Each night, he had a small gathering with the rest of the prefects to hand out assignments and be sure that everyone was ready to do what they were supposed to do. Each pair was given a certain area to patrol for the next hour or two and then Talan would walk around and act as extra security all through the rest of the castle. It was, arguably, his favorite part of each day, since there was never a day he didn't catch someone out after they were supposed to be. If he didn't write up at least two kids for detention, it was a bad night, and he sincerely hoped that tonight would be no different from the others. As terrible as it may have sounded, Talan got a thrill out of catching people breaking rules. That was his kind of fun.
Satisfied that the others were ready to go out and at least pretend like they were getting their prefect duties done, Talan turned on his heel to leave from the meeting and start taking care of his own duties. As the Head Boy, he had considerably greater leeway when it came to duties and he usually spent at least an hour more than the other prefects out helping keep the campus in order. The professors trusted him, much as they should, so he did what was asked of him. The rounds didn't bother him much, really. The castle was quieting down and aside from the typical sounds that accompanied buildings, it was just the sound of his feet beating against the floor as he walked. Talan, not being too fond of general rowdiness, was happy to just have that time mostly to himself. Aside from occasionally running into either a troublemaker or a professor, he was more or less by himself for a few hours.
Silently making his way through the castle, it wasn't until the fifth floor that Talan came across something interesting- a pack of third years. They thought they were being pretty clever by hiding out in one of the more abandoned rooms, but the noise level at which they were speaking made it nearly impossible to ignore their presence. As they heard his approaching steps, the kids were well aware that they were now out of luck and would most likely be busted. It took Talan a few moments to round the lot of them up, take names and give detentions out before a professor arrived to take care of the final details with that, but Talan was soon back out on his way to the next floor up. Finding groups usually meant he was probably going to be pretty done for the rest of the night, but he still had a few more floors to attend to and so set his sights for the Astronomy tower next.
Opening the door to the tower, Talan doubted that he would find anyone there. It wasn't exactly the place people went to mess around at night, but Talan enjoyed going through it. It was a peaceful area, had a beautiful view, and perhaps he mostly did it for personal reasons. However, when he entered into the tower and walked a slight way in, his eyes were met with the sight of a person. "Hey, you're no-" he started to call out, until he realized who it was that was sitting there. "Danielle? What are you doing here?" he asked, looking over at her with a questioning gaze. It was obvious that she was reading there, but Talan was required to ask, as the Head Boy. He didn't really want to get her into any trouble, since he generally liked her more than he did the majority of the people in the castle. She probably wasn't causing any trouble, at any rate, so he didn't think it would be an issue.

At the sound of a familiar voice, Danielle looked up from her book and smiled when she saw that it was Talan, but then quickly stopped smiling once she realized that he could possibly get her in trouble. But when she thought about it for a moment, she realized that she didn’t really care if he got her in trouble, and she would actually be grateful if he did. She always thought that he was too nice to her, though she wasn’t sure whether it was because of the fact that she was mute or because he liked her more than he did to most people. The brunette was about to reply, when she realized that she didn’t have her pencil and notepad with her. She didn’t expect to meet anyone tonight, though she should’ve thought about the fact that there were prefect duties every night. With an apologetic smile, Danielle pointed to her book and hoped that he could get the hint that she was reading and not doing anything destructive and/or stupid. Not that she would ever do anything destructive and/or stupid. She was simply too logical and serious for things like that. Well, she was now.
Once upon a time, a little girl called, Danielle Huntington could talk. Oh and how she loved to talk. It wasn’t because she was liked the sound of her voice or anything, it was just that the girl was incredibly talkative and curious. Everyday consisted of questions that she thought up the night before and telling her parents about what she learned the day before. They were so proud of her back then. She was so loved as a child before she was mute. Then something just happened. She couldn’t remember what. She had completely blocked it out of her memory. Danielle was quite good at that pretending like something didn’t happen or forcing herself to forget.
“How are you?”, she asked, her hands dancing in the air and her eyes curious. Hopefully he understood sign language.
notes: sorry it’s so short!

Based on the quick change in demeanor from Danielle, she wasn't so sure that he wouldn't get her into trouble. For pretty much anyone else, Talan probably would have done just that, but there were a few people that he let slide now and then. As long as they weren't doing anything particularly noteworthy than Talan didn't have a problem letting it go. Even if he was the sort of guy that played by the rules all the time and did precisely what he was supposed to, he knew there were moments when it was beneficial to bend them just a bit. Having a few people that he considered friends, or at the very least allies, was something that Talan knew he needed to accomplish. Of course, a lot of that was also in part because he was generally more fond of Danielle than most people, but having her around was also good in the long-run, he was sure. Talan didn't hang out with her for any particular motive, but there definitely were a lot of benefits to it, when it came down to it.
As he had expected, Danielle was simply sitting around reading and not doing anything worth turning her into the professors for. Based on the fact that she was speaking mostly with gestures, it seemed that she had forgotten to bring her notebook along with her. For Talan, that wasn't really an issue, since he was quite capable of communicating with Danielle otherwise, so it was probably a good thing that he was the one to come across her. Mostly in an endeavour to continue furthering himself, Talan had taken the time to learn sign language in his spare time. He already spoke three other languages in addition to English, so it was just something else to boost his usefulness in general. Though there were far fewer people he would have to talk with in sign language, it certainly didn't hurt and could easily garner some sympathy to any campaigns he ran in the future.
Watching as her hands danced about in front of her, it took Talan a moment to synthesize what he was seeing. Though he could speak in sign language, by no means was he extremely fluent. "I'm doing well, thanks. And yourself?" he asked, after a moment of pause between Danielle's question and his answer. The language barrier between them wasn't going to stop conversation, but it might make it more stunted. Walking in forward a bit more, Talan eased his way over towards the wall across from Danielle and leaned up against it. He wasn't all too interested in continuing about on his duties at the time, since there probably wasn't much else going on around the castle anyway. He could always just continue later, once his conversation with Danielle ran through, so it didn't matter much.
notes;; it's fiiine!
