The window wasn’t supposed to be open, but when the rain started falling, Abigail was the first to feel its cold drops against her cheek. She stirred in her sleep, rolling over, only allowing the dampness to invade more of her bed. A few moments passed, the cool winter night suddenly feeling frigid in ways it hadn’t felt since mid-October. She sighed, still sleeping, but inched away from the parts of her bed that were getting wet. She remained sleeping for several seconds more, until a loud crash sounded out in the midst of the chaotic night, pulling her violently from her dreams of ships at sea. She jumped to a state of wide-eyed alertness, and she looked around in a panicked sort of manner, seeking out the offensive window. Go figure it’d be the one next to her bed. She shot a dirty look to the girl in the bed beside Caroline’s and stood, sliding her feet into slippers before scuttling towards the window, which she immediately shut and locked, taking delight in the glass rattling as she released a bit of her anger on it.
She sighed, then, and began walking back to her bed- avoiding the small puddles that had begun to form on the stone floors. A yawn overtook her as she reached for her wand from her bedside table, which she used quickly to dry the puddles and the dampness of her bed sheets before sitting down on her bed, which was so big it threatened to swallow her a little every time she got into it. She sighed again and ran her fingers through her slightly damp hair, not caring enough about it to dry it with magic. She set her wand down and accepted that, for better or for worse, she was going to be awake at least until the storm passed. Another crack of thunder sounded, and she tensed. She wasn’t scared- not really, anyway. She just didn’t like loud noises too much, music was not included in this dislike. They made her nervous- twitchy a bit. Came from her mother’s dislike for them, her father told her all the time.
Caroline stood, eventually, and grabbed a black school robe out from her trunk. She slid it on quickly and headed for the door. With no care as to what her hair or face looked like, Caroline set off to the kitchens, hoping for some hot chocolate or, at least, some chocolate milk. Both had the same sort of calming effect on the girl, so, when things got stormy, she took to sneaking down to the kitchens and comforting herself rather than rousing her roommates and annoying them until the storm passed.
It didn’t take long for Cola to weave her way through the large corridors on down to the kitchen, it was almost a second nature to her to be sneaking. Her friends, most of whom weren’t Slytherins, always thought it was too scary to go by themselves when they wanted to go somewhere, so Cola took to playing leader in those cases. But at one point she had friends in her own house however that was when she attempted to appease her parents, now her friends were for her and no one else.
She tickled the pear, soon, shoving the thoughts about her House out of her mind as she did so. When the portrait shifted to let her in, her nose was assaulted with all of the glorious smells of Hogwarts’s finest dishes and then some. A warm smile crossed her face and she took a few steps inside. A house elf approached her, a tie wrapped around its head and tied in a bow, and bowed. “Missus Cola, what can Pinky do for Missus Cola, Miss?” it squeaked and askance.
“You know… I actually think I’d like a butterbeer tonight. Thanks,” Cola said and looked around, immediately finding a row of stools up against a bar-like area. She hoisted herself atop one of the swiveling stools and waited, then- the dull rumbles of the thunder still making their way into the kitchen, warm and inviting though it was.

A restless night was something common to Rosemary, most nights she would get in bed early in hopes of falling asleep earlier, but only light sleep came and whenever she heard a loud noise, or any noise for that matter, the blonde would be awake in an instant – though she never had a night like this before. It was thundering, and how she hated it. She could never stand thunderstorms, they were loud and it made her unable to sleep. Detangling herself from her sheets, she sat up, looking around the dorm curiously. The girl on the bed above her had been shuffling around it seemed, as well, but everyone else seemed to be sleeping fine in the darkness of the night. Rolling off of her bed, she sighed, there would be no more attempts at sleep for tonight. Tugging on a jumper and a pair of boots, she grabbed one of the many books lying in her bed and she pottered off out of the dorm to find something to do despite her lack of sleep. Now it was just a matter of finding something to do to bide her time. It wasn’t exactly the best time of night to actually try and find something now, since there were prefect patrols and professors all around the halls but Rosemary would just have to make due, she was stealthy when she wanted to be.
At first, the blonde thought that she might head towards the Room of Requirement because there was always something to do in there, even if she wasn’t exactly the most creative student in the world. It wasn’t actually that hard to entertain her, she supposed. There was that and the fact that she was in the dungeons and she loved a challenge, but going in there unnoticed or if someone else was already in there – well that wasn’t something that was desirable. She really didn’t need to scar herself more than she actually had already so she decided against it after some thought as she decided to stay down in the dungeons. As her eyes adjusted to the absence of light around her, she began to be able to see the faint outline of objects without the ad of actual light, despite herself. Even so, she still needed to think of something to do.
It didn’t take long for Rosemary to decide to go to the kitchen. After all, it wasn’t as if there were lots of things to do down in the dungeons, and the kitchen would provide a source of light for her to read her book, and the girl was also quite hungry seeing how she decided to skip dinner so she could be by herself for a short while. Despite the fact that she was feeling sure that she was exactly who she was before losing her memory, there were always time where she doubted that and needed to time to think things through, which deeply frustrated the girl seeing how she always managed to question things.
Rosemary made her way to the kitchen, occasionally jumped from the noise of the thunder or almost tripping on a rock, but overall she had made it to the portrait unscathed which she took pride in. Quickly, she tickled the pear and when it shifted, the girl let out a relived sighed. Even though she was now a somewhat stereotypical Slytherin, she hadn’t snuck out as much, or ever, therefore causing her to be incredibly nervous. But when she stepped inside the kitchen, the girl’s worry disappeared and a smile appeared on her face.
Seeing all the food that was there, the girl wanted to eat it all, or at least try some, but she knew that it wouldn’t be right and there was no way that she would be able to try them all, much less eat it all. A familiar house elf came up to her and bowed. “Is there anything Violet can get you, Miss Rose?” it asked, and the blonde sighed. She couldn’t even remember how many times she told it to refer to her as Rose, just Rose. Of course it being a house elf, it never did.
“Oh no, it’s fine. I can find something for myself. Thank you though,” Rose replied with a shake of her head. She could already see how the conversation was going to play out. The elf was going to insist to help her, while she said no profusely, but in the end she always gave in and allowed Violet to get her something.
“Violet will get you what you want Miss Rose,” the elf said, and Rose sighed. She did not have the strength to argue tonight, and she was incredibly hungry tonight too, so she just sighed and nodded in reply. Violet knew what she wanted. She came in her too often for the elf not to.
It wasn’t until she turned around and headed towards the stools that Rose noticed that there was someone else in here with her, she stopped where she was and nearly squeaked from surprised. When she had gotten over her initial surprised, she made her way to the person and sat down on the stool next to her. “Um, hi,” Rose said tentatively, not knowing what else to say.
notes: this is awful. i apologize.
