Valentin had been living around Hogwarts for the last few weeks as an exchange student, which surprisingly gave him quite a bit of freedom throughout the castle. He had to attend classes, along with special tutoring sessions for the specific Durmstrang courses he was missing, but otherwise he was free to come and go as he pleased. Though he stayed in the Slytherin dorms, he had quickly gained access to the other commons rooms as well. People found him charming, which he was, but people didn't always realize that he was anything but that. Val was a manipulative guy and he was only there at Hogwarts to cause havoc as best he could. Breaking Nika and her girlfriend up was his main priority, but he was also there for Death Squadron business. He had been asked to help spy on Adelaide Uruqhart and so far, he'd done a decent job.
The two of them didn't necessarily get along, but he always knew what she was doing or where she was. He knew who her friends are and who she talked to even just in passing. It seemed like he was everywhere, all the time, considering just how much he knew about her life. Some people might have seen it as creepy, but it was his job. As such, he spent a decent amount of time around the girl. He hadn't seen her for a day or two, so Val made it his mission to get up to the Ravenclaw tower and check in on things. Last he had heard, Addy was still her usual self and hadn't been talking to anyone new, but it was still nececssary to check in on her just to be sure. As good as his system was, he didn't have eyes everywhere.
After a few minutes of hanging around the entrance to the Ravenclaw tower, Valentin came across someone that would let him in. Climbing up the stairs, he slipped past the girl's staircase and up to the seventh years dorm. Poking his head in, Val was pleased to see that aside from Addy, no one was in there. Slinking into the room, Val leaned up against the wall and looked over at her. "Adelaide. It's been far too long, how are you?" he asked, his eyebrow cocking up to the side as he talked to her. It was obvious that he was simply toying with her and that he didn't particualrly care about how she had been. He was just there for the information that he needed and to have his own fun for a bit.

If anyone was ever looking for Adelaide, it was a good bet that you could find her in her room. The only times that she ever really went out were for class, meals, and the odd occasion that she went to the library. Other than that, she spent the majority of her time cooped up in her dormitory working on her schoolwork or reading a book. It wasn't a very exciting life, but she felt better for it at least. Being around people put her on edge, since she never knew what would come of it. It seemed like her parents had eyes everywhere, so Addy was constantly on guard and thinking through every interaction she had. Her parents could cause problems on a whim and if they happened not to like someone that Addy even just said hello to, Addy wasn't so sure they would leave it well enough alone. In fact, Addy was more or less convinced that her parents would dispose of anyone that she interacted with and therefore she just didn't. People were safer and she was calmer.
There were a few people that she hung out with, but really they were just to appease her parents. The more that she was seen hanging around people that they knew were associated with the Death Squadron, the more they seemed to lighten up on her. It wasn't much, but any little bit helped as far as Addy was concerned. Unfortunately, she was usually less than fond of the people that her parents would approve of, so most of that time was spent with her quite miserable. Since it was the weekend, Addy had forgone any necessary interactions with people and settled in her room with a book. It was long enough that she could easily spend the entire weekend there and not have to worry about finding anything else to occupy her time. That, more than anything, was the biggest trouble that she had. Once her homework was finished, she had to find other ways to occupy the long hours of the day. Usually, that ended up being a book.
Lying across the bed on her stomach, Addy flipped another page over to continue reading. Because she was so entranced with the book, Addy didn't notice Val's presence until he spoke. The abrupt sound of his voice caused her to dart back quickly in surprise before settling down with a slight frown. She didn't like Val at all. Something about him seemed off to her and she simply didn't trust the boy. For whatever reason, though, he insisted on pushing his company upon her. "I'm fine," she answered with a shrug. It was the same answer every time, though it was rarely a truthful answer. "And it's only been two days since you last crept up the stairs. Which, by the way, you're still not supposed to do." Despite the fact that Val really wasn't allowed there in her room, he did it anyway, and despite the fact that she made it clear that he wasn't supposed to be there, well, he did it anyway. Shifting up to a sitting position, Addy slid her bookmark to the page she was on and sat back with a sigh. Hopefully it would only be a short conversation before he let her be.

Since Addy was usually in her room, it made things easier for Valentin when he needed to track her down. It was sad, in a way, but he wasn't going to do anything to change that. Her parents preferred that she didn't speak with other people outside of the Death Squadron, so he was usually pleased to say that she hadn't been doing that at all. There was always the threat that she might start to rebel against her parents at some point, but Val thought he was keeping a close enough watch that he would be able to jump in and stop something like that from happening before it was able to take root. He might not have been able to stop her from talking to people altogether, but he could easily ruin any relationships that she built with a few well placed words.
Fine. Always the same from the girl. Val got the feeling that she said that to get him to back off and leave, though he certainly never did. "Ah, but no one has told me not to come up here, aside from you. Everyone else seems to like me, so I really don't know what you have against me," he replied with a shrug. His body language was exuding an innocent vibe, which was entirely his intention. Valentin wasn't innocent at all, but he tried to give off the vibe that he was a good guy. The more people trusted him, the more he could work his way into the social arena of Hogwarts. If he could blend himself in better, he could essentially get whatever he wanted from whoever he wanted and that was his ultimate goal for being there.
Crossing the room, Val made himself comfortable by taking a seat at the edge of her bed. He was close enough that when he leaned back he had his head resting right next to her. He was sure it would bother her, but he didn't care. "Ah, so, Adelaide, what have you been up to? Make any new friends I should know about?" he asked. His tone was friendly and conversational, but there was an inflection behind it that revealed he was less than friendly with his intentions. His questions were never out of friendship, they were just to pry into her personal life and dissect every aspect of it so he could report to her parents.

Nothing about Val seemed right to Adelaide. Even though he was supposedly some nice guy, he didn't give her that feeling. Something about the guy seemed just off to her and there wasn't much that she could do about it. However, a part of her wondered if maybe she was just being overly paranoid about him, like she was with most people. Maybe she was unnecessarily pushing him away because of her own mistrust of people, though she had a feeling that wasn't quite the case. Whatever it was about Val, Addy didn't think she would ever bring herself to trust him. Looking up at him with an anxious expression as he came over to sit near her, Addy tensed up, not sure what might come of his nearing presence. He wasn't her parents, but he may as well have been an extension of them, as far as she was concerned.
No matter how "innocent" his smile may have been, Addy felt that there was some sort of lurking evil beneath it. He wasn't just there to check up on her for her parents, he was there to utterly control her and it made her more nervous than anything else could. "I never said I had anything against you, I just like the rules is all," she replied, rather flippantly. That was clearly not true in the least, since she didn't heckle anyone else when they were in the girl's dormitories, but it was much easier to claim that than to admit that she really did have something against him. She couldn't explain what it was, but she knew that he wasn't a good guy. However, since no one else seemed to have as much of a problem with Val as she did, there wasn't much that she could do about it anyway.
The way that Val spoke, though seemingly friendly, had a hint of threat behind it. At least, that was how Addy perceived it. It was like he already knew what she had been doing and would know if she was lying and also like if she did lie, there would be consequences. "I don't...no, uhm. I went to uhm...I went out with Morgan for a...day thing," she mumbled, rather under her breath and quick. She personally didn't think there was anything wrong with Morgan and she quite liked her, in fact, but that didn't mean her parents would feel the same way. However, she had to hope that Morgan's family name would carry some merit and that in the end it would all turn out just fine, no troubles at all. Unfortunately, Addy was sure a lot of that would have to do with what Val said to her parents about the matter and that didin't leave her with much hope.
