At six years of age, Felix Wood was proud to say that he was, in fact, an expert on Christmas. Though he had yet to see Santa Claus come down the chimney, he was confident that the presents would be under the tree as soon as he crept out of his bedroom and down the hallway. Santa was the most powerful wizard to have existed and if he wanted to get presents into the house, then he would do it.
"Felix. Felix, it's Christmas," a voice whispered into the boy's room. Looking over at the door, Felix could see the tiny form of his younger sister, halfway hidden behind the wall as she peeked into his room. Grinning excitedly, Felix crawled out of his bed and dropped to the floor, padding over to where Ellie was standing.
"You bet it is, Elle," he announced proudly. It was obvious from the tone of his voice that he was repressing his excitement in an attempt to seem like he was far more mature and knowledgeable than Ellie about Christmas. Taking Ellie's hand as the two left the room, Felix started to lead them down the hallway and towards the living room. Obviously, they had to make sure that Santa hadn't forgotten them.
Ellie had a bit of a concerned look on her face as she walked down the hallway, since she hadn't experienced nearly as much Christmas as Felix. With an extra year under his belt, Felix had a lot more faith in Old Saint Nick. Though, there was a slight worry at the back of his mind that perhaps something could have gone wrong and he didn't want Ellie to have to see that. That just wouldn't have been fair.
When they were nearly to the end of the hall, Felix paused and took his hand away from Ellie's, placing it at her shoulder. "Now, I need you to stand guard here while I make sure there aren't any elves still working, okay?" he requested, waiting until she gave him a solemn nod before he poked his head around the corner. As his head moved into the room with the Christmas tree, Felix spotted the pile of gifts sitting under the tree. Letting out an excited yelp, he turned back to Ellie with a pleased grin.
"It's okay, Elle, you can look," he said with a nod and a grin as Ellie rushed around him to get a look at the gifts for herself. A wide-eyed expression took over her face when she saw the rather large pile of gifts at the base of the fur and she jumped up excitedly as she looked back at Felix. It really was Christmas morning.
Shuffling her feet a bit, Ellie bit her lip and looked up at Felix, batting her eyes a bit in a rather puppy-like smile. "Can we open a present now, Felix?" she asked, looking up at the boy.
Though a soft smile appeared on the boys face, he shook his head once before taking her hand once more. "Nope, we can't yet, Elle. We hafta get mum and pops first," he said, nodding his head before tugging at her hand and racing down the hallway.
The two children were completely in sync as they dashed down the hallway and tossed open the door to their parents bedroom. Pouncing up onto the bed, they each took one of their parents and started to shake them awake, chanting excitedly that it was Christmas. Just another happy Christmas in the Wood family household.
