It was the summer before their fifth year at Hogwarts, and Ellie Wood and Erinn Thomas were extremely bored. Ellie sat at her desk, flipping through the book of Gryffindor Quidditch plays her brother had created and wanted her and Erinn to look over. Erinn, however, was upside down lying off of Ellie’s bed, tossing a Quaffle in the air.
“This play has some great work for us, a few awesome dives,” Ellie said, holding it up for her friend to see. As Erinn looked up, she missed the Quaffle, causing it to roll across the room and putting a pout on Erinn’s face.
She rolled back onto the floor, and Ellie laughed as Erinn slinked around. “I’m bored,” she said, placing her head in her hand.
“Me too, princess,” Ellie said, shutting the book.
“Is your brother home?” Erinn asked.
“Which one?”
“Felix, duh,” Erinn said, climbing up to sit on the bed.
“Yeah, he should be in his room. Or in the kitchen, who knows,” Ellie shrugged.
“Wanna mess with him?” Erinn smirked, raising her eyebrows at Ellie.
“Hey, why the hell not?” Ellie laughed, standing up. “So how are we going to do this?”
“I’ve got a plan.”
-----
“Why do I always have to be bait?” Ellie asked, shutting the door to her room.”
“Because Felix can’t kill me,” Erinn said. “I’m his favorite. Now, I’ll be down by your parents’ room, just get Felix out of there, and I’ll do the rest.”
“Okay!” Ellie waited until Erinn disappeared around the corner.
She then peeked her head around the door into her brother’s room. He was sitting on the bed, reading a Quidditch magazine.
“Bubs?” Ellie asked, walking to the edge of the bed by Felix, “Can you help me? I’m trying to hang this Pudds poster but I can’t reach.”
Felix looked up at his little sister, placing his magazine down on the bed. “Sure thing, Elles,” he said, standing up and walking towards the door. “Another Puddlemere poster, though? Isn’t the Colby Munroe obsession getting a tad out of hand?”
Ellie frowned at him and pushed him through the door, following him. They walked down the hall and into her room.
“Where’s the poster?” Felix asked, looking around.
“On the bed,” Ellie said, leaning against the doorway and nodding. “Pretty sure Erinn rolled on it and wrinkled it. Can you hang it in the space above my headboard, please?”
“Sure thing, Bug,” he said, climbing onto the bed. As soon as he was occupied, reaching up to hang the poster, Ellie tapped the wall in the hallway lightly. All of a sudden, there was a loud stomping noise coming from down the hallway, followed by Erinn running in front of the door, cackling, waving Felix’s broom in the air. Ellie immediately took off after her, and they sprinted down towards the stairs. They could hear Felix yelling from her room, jumping off the bed and sprinting after them.
Erinn tossed the broom to Ellie, who took off towards the living room. Erinn, however, ran into the kitchen. Ellie could see Felix starting to run down the stairs, and as soon as he saw her, she screamed and took off running, Felix gaining on her. She sprinted around through the foyer, then the dining room, and then into the kitchen to meet Erinn. She looked around and couldn’t find her and she panicked, when all of a sudden, she heard someone scream, and she looked in that direction.
That’s when she saw Erinn, sitting on top of the fridge. She tossed up the broom and hit the counter, laughing. Felix ran in, saw Ellie broomless, and looked at her, confused. All of a sudden, he heard a giggle and looked up. Erinn waved.
“This is what you get for playing keep away with two girls whose position is to play keep away,” Ellie said, still laughing at her friend sitting atop the fridge. Erinn tossed the broom to Ellie, and Ellie grabbed it, turning to run.
As she spun around, however, she felt Felix grab her, spin her around, and throw her over his shoulder, Ellie screaming the whole time. He grabbed the broom out of her hand.
“You forget, little sister,” Felix said, Ellie smacking his back, “my position is to end that game of keep away. And my job as your big brother is to kill you for being annoying. I can take this out on you when practices start, you know that, right?”
Ellie then saw Erinn run in, shouting about how she was sorry she couldn’t get off the fridge in time to save her. Felix started to walk up the stairs, accidentally hitting Ellie into the banister, which made her cry out and hit him in the back of the head.
“How come you’re not being this mean to Erinn?!” Ellie shouted, kicking her legs.
“Cause she’s always been my favorite,” Felix sad, shrugging the shoulder his sister wasn’t occupying.
“Knew it!” Erinn called from the bottom of the stairs.
