The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right Carleigh Addison Stryder laid sprawled out on her bed. It was the first time she had been home in what seemed to be months. Ever since the brat, Ilyana, moved in the girl's life had been turned upside down. Nothing was like it should be. The dog had stolen her thunder and therefore deserved to be punished for it. And that, was what the girl was doing. Coming up with ways to get back at her new 'sister' that happened to be a fucking dog.
Banshee, Carleigh's albino ferrett, climbed up onto her bed. His little paws walking across her back made Carleigh smile and giggle. Her ferret was practically the only thing that hadn't been affected by the drastic change. Well, maybe he did, but in a good way. Bansh seemed to show a flaming hatred toward Ilyana, and that, was a good thing. The girl practically had to hold the ferret back from ripping her new sister to shreds. Maybe she should just let Banshee roam the house like he used to. Maybe he would eat the new member of the household.
Carleigh wrote that idea down on her paper. The list seemed to be growing rapidly, causing a malicious smirk to play across her face. Banshee waddled over and took a bite out of the bottom corner of the paper. "Stop that!" Carls scolded her pet as it chewed away at the paper in it's mouth. The girl stuck her finger in Banshee's mouth and retrieved the paper. Anyone else who would have tried that would have definitely lost the finger, or the whole hand matter of fact. Carleigh threw the little piece of paper on the floor with the rest of the shit she had and leaned over to turn her radio on. The girl flailed her fingers around, watching Bansh try to catch them playfully, nibbling gently when he did catch a finger. tagged;; open words;; idc, enough. music;; hallie and henry- say hi wearing;; thisnotes;; enter if you dare.

The flurry of activity that surrounded the small door of the Stryder apartment was a rarity. On most occasions, it was quiet and you'd hardly believe that anyone lived there. Today, however, that was completely different. There was quite the ruckus going on, with screaming, spells flying every which way and a pounding against the walls. Within a few seconds, however, the noise died down with one last slam of a door and the hallway returned to it's previously quiet state. It was an all too common thing in the household as of late and, to be honest, Felicity was pretty surprised that no one had called the police about it yet or something. It was pretty obvious what was going on, if you lived there, but no one of importance had yet to find out or say anything. Felicity was good at hiding things and that was just the way she planned on keeping it.
Leaning with her back up against the door, she let out a sigh of irritation. Although she had been quite certain that adopting Ilyana into the family would be a good thing, she was starting to have her doubts. The fighting with her fiancee was reaching a peak, which was difficult, there was more than enough added stress what with all the bullshit from the ministry and to top it all off, Carleigh was doing her damnedest to make things more difficult for her. Carleigh. Felicity was pretty certain that the girl hadn't been around to hear anything about what had been going on that morning, since she most definitely hadn't been back to the house in quite some time, but perhaps it would be best just to check. Damage control was always something that Felicity had to stay on top of.
Walking over to the mirror, Felicity bit her lip when she saw the quickly swelling bruise under her left eye. Fantastic. She'd have to go dig up the potion to fix that later, but for now she needed to pop in to Carleigh's room for a moment. Brushing off the front of her shirt, Felicity turned around and made her way down the hallway to reach Carleigh's room. Pressing a hand up against the doorway, she listened for a moment to see if the radio was playing inside. Much to her distress, it was. However, perhaps that meant that she wasn't paying attention at all to what else was going on and Felicity wouldn't have to worry about it. She considered just leaving it at that and turning back around, but she couldn't. It had been too long since she'd seen Carleigh and they needed to talk.
Briefly knocking on the door, Felicity opened it up and poked her head inside. Keeping her head tilted more towards the left to keep the bruise as hidden as was possible, Felicity leaned up against the door frame, not invading into Carleigh's space any more than was necessary. "Hey, kid. Didn't know you were home," she said as a greeting, offering up a bit of a smile. She knew how Carleigh had been lately and the last thing that she wanted was to make things worse, so she knew that she would have to be fairly careful and would choose her words carefully. "You doing homework? Should I go?" she asked, noticing the paper in front of Carleigh that the tiny demon ferret was gnawing on.

The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right Carleigh scribbled something on her list of ways to get rid of Ilyana and chuckled a little. Her mind seemed to wander off and fantasize about her evil plans. Images danced around in her head as she tried to imagine the look on the girl's face when she replaced some of her candy with stuff from a Skiving Snackbox. That was only the least violent of her plans. Banshee lunged out violently at the paper, but missed and bit Carleigh's finger hard. The girl started bleeding quite a bit as she finally looked up to see her sister standing at her door. A bit of anger filled the girl as she sat up on her bed, catching the dripping blood in her other hand.
Carleigh rolled her eyes as she got out of her bed and walked over to the sink. She didn't have to worry about Felicity seeing the paper as long as Banshee had a grip on it. "Yeah, Of course I'm home. As if my music isn't loud enough," she said as rolled her blue eyes once more. The girl ran some water over the wound, grinding her teeth as it stung. What if she had a guy in her bed with her? Not that Felicity hasn't walked in on that before. Her sister should have known not to come into her room while her music was blasting. Aren't people supposed to learn from those kinds of things?
Carls wrapped a cloth around her finger and walked back over to her bed. "You little brat," she muttered as she ripped her notebook away from Banshee and sat next to him on the bed. The girl looked up at her sister with a confused expression, "When do I ever do my homework?" Homework was not the girl's forte. Although she was smart and could probably complete her homework quite quickly, the idea of 'work' didn't appeal to her. Carleigh pressed her finger to the lock of the drawer on her nightstand and watched as it opened. She placed her diary in there and slid the drawer shut. Between Banshee and her magic-locked drawers it was very difficult to get to Carleigh's private stuff. It would take a load of advanced dark magic to open her nightstand. She crossed her legs indian style and looked back up at her sister, "No, it'd be alright if you stay," she stated with a sigh, "You already entered my lair and everyone knows that there's no turning back now." tagged;; felicity words;; idc, enough. music;; gorgeous nightmare- escape the fate wearing;; thisnotes;; muahahaha.

As she looked into the room and saw Carleigh's finger dripping with blood, presumably because of her demon pet, Felicity' bit her lip slightly to keep herself from darting in to fix it for Carleigh. She knew that she could be a bit doting at times and that Carleigh probably didn't want her to hop up over every little thing. Even if she was just her older sister, Felicity had essentially been acting as Carleigh's mother for years now and it was hard to just let things go sometimes. She was the sort of person that would micromanage everything if given the opportunity and she had to make sure that she toned it down sometimes. Carleigh was getting older and could take care of herself for the most part, so Felicity needed to learn to be more of a sister than a mother. That, however, was difficult for her to do.
Felicity sighed slightly when Carleigh got up, rolling her eyes, clearly not too pleased by the fact that Felicity was there. Of course, that was probably something that she should have expected, considering the fact that they had been on rocky terms as of late, but Felicity still had that hope that perhaps things would just go back to normal. "Right. Music. That's good," she nodded, brushing her hair back behind her ears. Technically, it was probably a very good thing for her sake that the music had been on and blaring, since that meant that Carleigh most likely hadn't been paying a lick of attention to what was going on in the rest of the house. Although Felicity really never had been fond of the music sounding out throughout the house, that was one battle she thought it wise not to bother fighting.
Homework was, of course, wishful thinking on Felicity's part. She knew Carleigh wasn't exactly student of the year and certainly didn't push herself all that often, but Felicity still had high hopes that perhaps Carleigh would start to work herself a bit. Felicity had always been a top student and did what she was supposed to do and, admittedly, there were times when she wished that Carleigh would be the same. "Yeah, you're right. What was I thinking?" she asked, pursing her lips irritably. Whatever it was that she had been working on, Felicity felt it was probably best to just not know for now. Sometimes with Carleigh it was easiest to just feign ignorance and leave it at that, since getting involved was never a good thing.
Though Carleigh said that it was okay that she stayed, it certainly didn't sound like she was all to thrilled by the idea. "Ah, if you don't want me to stay, it's not a problem. I've got plenty to do, so..." she said with a shrug. She didn't want to just leave it at that, but she didn't have the patience at the moment to deal with Carleigh acting like she had been as of late. Bringing a hand lightly up to the side of her face, she winced slightly when she put pressure on the bruise that was forming. "I just thought it would be nice to catch up," she added, looking over at Carleigh for a moment before turning back away. She hated not being able to just be normal with her sister and certainly wished that things could go back to normal, but she wasn't sure how long that would take.

The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right Carleigh looked over at her sister and rolled her eyes in her famous unamused 'I'm glad you've established that' look. Yes, music, it was only blasting throughout the house. It's not as if Felicity couldn't hear it. Only a deaf person wouldn't be able to hear it.
Pssh. Homework? Why would Carleigh do that crap? She was to damn lazy and on top of that, she couldn't care less. Actually, she did care. Bad grades would ruin her reputation and she had found a way to get away with not doing homework. For every assignment she missed she would hand her professor a note from 'the hospital wing' or 'her sister' asking to be excused from the assignment. It was quite brilliant. She had become an expert in the art of forging signatures.
Carleigh returned to her bed. "Yeah, I guess we could use some catching up," the girl's voice trailed off. She hadn't had a conversation with her sister in person in what seemed to be ages. It wasn't a big deal either, only because Felicity was the one who let the mutt in the house. But Carleigh was willing to forget about her list for a little bit. Maybe she needed to learn to be more civil? That was much to difficult for her. She hadn't had a non bitter chat with anyone other than Megan in quite a while. Even between hitched breath and moans there was a bit of an edge in her voice.
The girl wasn't going to pat a spot on the bed next to her because truthfully, her sister probably didn't want to go near her bed after what she and her guys have done in it. Or the carpet for that matter. And the kitchen table, but she cleaned that. Instead she just picked Banshee up and put him down in her lap. She couldn't stay mad at him for more than a few seconds. People on the other hand, were a different story. Carleigh's doggedness allowed her to hold on to a grudge for what seemed to be forever. tagged;; felicity words;; idc, again. music;; firework- katy perry wearing;; thisnotes;; sex references ftw (;

To be honest, Felicity wasn't sure how much more of Carleigh she could take for the day. As much as she loved the girl, it was stressful to be around her a lot of the time. Before, it was at least tolerable, since it was mostly just her typical attitude coming out about school or whatever, but it was nearly impossible to deal with the girl now that she had brought Ilyana into the house. She could understand that it wasn't exactly the ideal situation for the girl, but she hadn't expected for her to act quite as negatively about it all as she had. Sure, she knew it wasn't going to be an easy transition, but the level of difficulty that she was dealing with wasn't something that she knew how to handle. Felicity had been doing the best that she could with all the things that she had going on, but all of the stress was starting to pile up a whole lot worse and she didn't know how much more she could take without completely shutting down.
It was obvious that Carleigh didn't look particularly thrilled by the idea of getting to catch up and Felicity considered just leaving then and there so that she didn't have to deal with it. However, she was pretty sure that that would just make it worse. If she was going to fix the situation, she probably needed to talk to Carleigh about everything and gain her trust back. "Try not to sound so excited about that," Felicity commented with a snide tone. As much as she wanted to be as cordial and friendly as possible, that just wasn't happening. Her stress level had gotten to the point where it was easiest to just reciprocate the treatment that Carleigh was giving her. Of course, the odds that that would help at all were completely zero and Felicity had to bite her lip slightly to keep herself from saying anything else that would make the situation any worse than it already was.
Her eyes scanned the room for a moment, looking for a place to sit down, but there wasn't really a safe place to sit. Her lip curled up slightly at the thought and she turned to grab her wand from her pocket. It would probably be easiest to just summon a chair to sit in for a few minutes while she spoke with Carleigh. She doubted that the conversation would last all that long, to be honest, before the whole situation turned to shit. Either Carleigh would be impossible, or she herself would get too fed up with it all and just storm out of the room. Whatever the case, she didn't exactly have any hopes for this turning out to be a good experience. Letting the chair she'd summoned float into the room, she situated it in a comfortable position where she could see Carleigh, but still keep her face turned away enough that Carleigh couldn't ask questions. Sitting down, she settled into the chair in a comfortable enough position.
There was a moment of silence in which Felicity wasn't sure what to even ask Carleigh. It had been so long since they'd had a genuine moment together to talk that she had no idea where to even go with the conversation. "How are things with you, than?" she asked, glancing up at the younger girl as she spoke. It was a good enough question, she assumed. Not particularly serious, which was good, but it was a good opening to the conversation. How Carleigh would answer it, there was no telling. However, Felicity was doing her part to help move things along their relationship and as far as she was concerned, that was all she could do. "School going alright?" she added, though she highly doubted that would be anything that she wanted to hear about. Well, if there was anything Carleigh could even tell her about school. Mostly, it would probably just be the lack of school.

The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right excited. “Oh, I just can’t contain my excitement. I think it might be too much for me to handle,” the girl shot the comment at Felicity sarcastically, then she closed her mouth. She knew she probably shouldn’t have said that, it just kind of flew out of her mouth, an instinct by now. The blonde looked down at the squirming ferret in her lap and stroked his back. The feeling of Banshee’s soft, white fur on her skin seemed to calm the girl down quite a bit. Her facial expression changed from slightly angry to apathetic.
As the chair floated into her room, Carleigh couldn’t help but giggle. Felicity knew what happened in her room on a daily basis and decided to take the smart route. It wasn’t even a secret anymore. Carls walked into the house with a new guy every night she was home. From there it really depended on if anyone was home, but usually they went straight up to her bedroom and turned the radio up to save people from the other sounds coming out of her room. At least she was considerate in that sense. “Good choice in seating, Felicity. That might be the only piece of furniture in the house that I haven’t done it on,” the girl said with an intensely satisfied smirk.
Carleigh watched her sister settle into her chair silently. She wasn’t about to start the conversation, she couldn’t care less, though way down deep in her black hole heart she wanted to have a civilized conversation with her sister. Admitting that is by far a different story. “Eh…same ol’ shit that I’ve always had going on. And still lacking in the boyfriend department.” For once there was no bitterness in the girl’s voice. “School is fine, I guess. I can’t believe I’m graduating this year. I have no idea what I want to do,” Carleigh paused to ponder for a minute. “I’ll probably look for a higher position in the Death Squadron and see where that takes me…” her voice trailed off as she thought about school. She wasn’t about to tell her sister about the fact that she had slept with a few teachers, but her grades weren’t as bad as she thought they would be, which was a good thing because she barely went to class.

It probably would have been a lot more difficult to deal with Carleigh and her sarcasm if Felicity didn't know that it was probably a lot her fault that Carleigh was like that. She had more or less helped raise Carleigh since she was young and any personality traits that she had developed were certainly at least partially her own doing. "Well, perhaps in that case I should just make my leave now. Wouldn't want you to spontaneously combust with all that excitement," she responded, flippantly. This wasn't exactly what she wanted to deal with at the moment, nor was it the kind of relationship that she wanted to have with Carleigh, but if it was the best that things were going to get than she supposed she had to accept it for the time being. It wasn't the ideal situation for sure, but she'd rather at least somewhat have Carleigh in her life than not have her around at all.
At Carleigh's giggle, her eyes flicked up to look at the girl, a sly smirk on her face. It was almost a good moment between them, since it was rare that they both shared something of a smile between them anymore. "Yes, yes, I had a feeling. I'd probably be much more bothered by that fact if I couldn't say the same about myself," she commented, raising an eyebrow slightly as she spoke. She'd certainly had her time where she'd been just as bad as Carleigh, but that had faded away towards the end of her years at Hogwarts, when she had started dating her current fiancee. Though, that certainly didn't mean the sex was any less than it had been previously. "You really shouldn't be doing that or whatever, though. It's all dangerous and bad and all those other things parents are supposed to say," she added, in a rather sarcastic drawl. She knew full well that there wasn't anything that she could say that would get Carleigh to change, nor did she think she really needed to. Carleigh was doing fine as she was.
Admittedly, Felicity found it hard to accept that Carleigh was so different from her at times. In many ways, they were very similar, but there was a lot about them that was completely different. Mainly, school and boyfriends and that sort of area. Felicity had settled down rather young, but it seemed that Carleigh had no intention of doing that anytime soon. Plus, she also wasn't sure just where to go with her life. Felicity had been pretty confident with what she wanted with her life pretty much since she was younger and had always intended to become a Quidditch player professionally. "Yeah, I guess you'll be out of school pretty soon. I'm always around to help make decisions and such if you need any advice," she offered. She doubted Carleigh would take her up on that, but she certainly had to offer. She wanted the best for her younger sister and if she could help in some way, she would.
Felicity drew back slightly at Carleigh's suggestion she take a higher position with the Death Squadron. Technically, she supported the idea, but at the same time she knew that it was extremely dangerous. She herself was a fairly high ranked member and worked as a recruiter for the Death Squadron. Not to mention, the leader was pretty much one of her best friends. "If you...need help with that, I could talk to Marcus. He'd be willing to get you started, I'm sure," she said with a nod. Not, perhaps, what she wanted Carleigh to do with her life, but at least it was a goal. That was definitely better than nothing. "So, uh, aside from that, did you have any other plans or..anything?" she asked, her voice revealing more hope than she actually felt about that.

The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right Felicity fired a sarcastic comment right back at Carleigh who just sat on her bed and looked up blankly at her sister. She figured it was best not to say anything; her baby blue eyes would do all the talking for her. The girl's eyes sent out an innocent and angelic ora because the word 'sorry' wasn't in her vocabulary.
The floating chair caught Carleigh's attention causing her to chuckle slightly. "Ew. It's different when I say that. I don't want to know about your sex life..." her voice was a bit giggly and a small smile danced across her soft, pink lips. Carleigh smoothed her cream-colored dress. "Why not?!" she snapped at her sister without even letting her finish what she was saying. She absolutely hated being told what she could and could not do with a burning passion. The girl rolled her ocean colored eyes and smirked, "How is it dangerous? And anyway, you're not my parent, you're my sister, so you are not required to give me that talk." She stopped to think abut that for a second. Her parents were gone, never coming back, so maybe Felicity really was like her parent, the ones she barely remembered. "Well, maybe you are like a mom to me, but that still doesn't mean that I'm going to listen."
There was nothing that anyone could do to fix Carleigh's habits now. After all, she was almost eighteen, and that fact terrified her. She didn't want to grow up and take on the responsibilities that came with becoming an adult. The thought of herself actually settling down with someone crossed her mind and she couldn't even imagine it. At the moment she wasn't even interested in any guys, she just went with what came to her. It almost upset her that Felicity had her whole life planned out before her graduation. She had quidditch and probably a boyfriend of the sort. "Err...thanks?" Her sister's comment struck a chord in Carleigh's head. She was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. She didn't want help, nor did she plan on accepting it. The flash of anger was apparent in her eyes, but she kept her mouth shut.
"I've already gotten myself started. I'm already the student leader of the Death Squadron," Carleigh paused, "And besides, if I want something from Marcus I'll get it myself." A mischievous smirk tugged at the corners of her mouth as she spoke. She had her ways of getting what she wanted. Carleigh was quite the manipulative type of girl, using her looks and cleverness to get where she wanted in life. Her sister probably wouldn't approve of her methods if she knew, but the girl couldn't care less. Actually, that's a lie. She did care quite a lot deep down in her dark, abysmal and icy heart.
"Any other plans? What do you mean?" Carleigh asked, her face showed a bit of confusion. "I can't even plan out what I'm going to do tonight. If you're talking about settling down, I'd like to inform you that I'm single and from what I know, no one is interested in me for anything other than sex." That little thought popped into the girl's head. Maybe she was just an object to be used and passed on to the next person. "Maybe I'll just become a stripper and that's all..." she mumbled to herself as her eyes wandered off, looking in the opposite direction. tagged;; felicity words;; 597 music;; bat country- avenged sevenfold wearing;; thisnotes;; i think it's safe to diagnose carleigh with bipolar disorder...

Felicity knew full well that the look Carleigh was giving her was the closest thing she would get to any form of apology. Not, perhaps, the best of apologies, but coming from Carleigh it was enough. At the very least, even if she couldn't get Carleigh to really cooperate with her by being nice, she knew that if she fought back a little that she could get some sort of response from her. She inclined her head slightly to show that she acknowledged the sentiment behind Carleigh's ever so angelic look, though how truthful it was, Felicity didn't care to think about. Sometimes she felt like Carleigh was absolutely incapable of feeling any sort of remorse for any of the biting comments that she gave her, but she had yet to completely give up hope that her younger sister had a soul. It was in there somewhere. Probably. Maybe.
A bemused smirk graced her face at Carleigh's comment, quite amused by her reaction. As much as Carleigh was happy to let everyone know what she was up to, she certainly was averse to hearing about anyone else's sex life. Though, that was probably a good thing. Before she could respond to that, a slight scowl rose on her face at Carleigh's outburst. She certainly hadn't been serious with what she was saying, since she had no intention of attempting to tell Carleigh what to do with her life. However, the younger girl seemed to think that she was attempting to go off on her with that one. Raising an eyebrow slightly in a rather disinterested manner, Felicity let Carleigh stop going on before giving her a look of irritation. "It was a joke, Carleigh. At this point I honestly couldn't care less what the hell you do to yourself," Felicity remarked, much more scathingly than she had intended. Sometimes she couldn't help it and Carleigh's attitude got the best of her. As much as she tried to be the bigger person, it sometimes was an absolutely impossible task when around the younger girl.
As was expected, her offer to be there for Carleigh fell on deaf ears. Felicity liked to think that she was fairly well qualified to give some bit of advice to Carleigh if she needed it, since she had been just where Carleigh was. Admittedly, she had always been a bit more prepared and had planned her life perfectly to a t ever since she was young, so there were certainly differences between them. Either way, she left it at that, knowing, if a bit regretfully, that Carleigh likely would never take her up on the offer. If anything, she was probably more offended by it than grateful that Felicity actually cared and while that did bother Felicity some, she didn't push the matter and simply let the conversation taper off after that. If Carleigh didn't want her help, than she wasn't going to waste her time pressing it upon her.
Although there were many things about Carleigh that Felicity couldn't exactly be entirely proud of, the fact that she had taken up leading the student branch of the Death Squadron was something Felicity certainly could approve of. It was definitely a start, though it was nothing compared to the big leagues that Felicity had taken up with. Of course, she didn't intend to dash Carleigh's assumption that she was already on her way to something for her future and she let the matter pass. "You be careful with Marcus, hm? I quite like him," Felicity commented with a smirk. "I'd like if you didn't break him." She spoke about Marcus almost as if he were some sort of toy, though he was probably one of her few close friends. Certainly, she wouldn't wish Carleigh upon him if the girl actually wanted something.
Settling down hadn't exactly been the topic in Felicity's mind when asking her question, though she certainly wouldn't have minded if Carleigh had someone in mind. Of course, she knew the girl had plenty of time to find someone and getting engaged or married early wasn't exactly for everyone. Her face drew in slightly when Carleigh mentioned her doubts, not at all sure how to tackle that bear of an issue. Her face softened slightly, showing a bit of concern for the girl. "I doubt that's the case, but I'm sure you'll find someone eventually, hm? And absolutely not. I can't let you be a stripper. It's the worst possible job you could imagine, I assure you," Felicity replied with a rather sharp tone. She definitely didn't want Carleigh to take that route with her life and, having been there herself for a few years, knew full well the hell that it was to be a stripper. Though, she certainly didn't intend to tell Carleigh that she had any sort of personal experience with the matter.

The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right Carleigh felt the burn from her sister’s remark. She doesn’t care…. she thought to herself, Felicity’s words replaying in her head like a broken record. Her eyes changed from a vibrant blue to the shade of stormy ocean water and the slight smile that once possessed her lips faded. Carls merely fell silent, pursing her lips and biting her tongue to prevent herself from saying anything. She cursed at her in her head, violent images flickered, but she kept them to herself. The girl looked down at the sheets on her bed, examining the flowery patterns with little interest.
She knew that she was perfectly capable of getting what she wanted for herself. Carleigh saw needing help as a sign of weakness, a signal that she wasn’t as tough as she seemed and that’s not what she wanted. After a few moments of silence, the girl seemed to forget about what her sister said, pushing it to the back of her mind subconsciously. A devilish smirk played across Carleigh’s lips when her sister mentioned that she liked Marcus. “I know you do. That’s why Ilyana and I tried to get him to hook up with you. You need to get rid of that bitch of a fiancé. I don’t like him very much and judging by the bruise on you face, you shouldn’t either.” She was a lot smarter than she looked sometimes. The girl noticed small things that people tried to hide from her. Deep down in her black hole heart, she actually cared a lot for her older sister.
Carleigh rolled over to the side of her bed and reached for her wand on her nightstand, grasping it in her hand. She tapped on the lock on the drawer and mumbled the password. The drawer popped open like a cash register. The girl stood up over it and rummaged around, elbow deep, in the small drawer. Extendable bottom charms were the absolute best. Finally, she pulled out what she had been looking for, an acid pop. They burn a hole right through your tongue, but Carleigh liked pain for the most part. She turned her head toward her sister, “You want one?” she asked. Candy could be considered a weakness of hers. She unwrapped it and popped it into her mouth enjoying the tingling sensation on her tongue. Carls locked the drawer once more. There was no way that she would let anyone know what was in there, especially her sister. That drawer was her territory and if anyone threatened it, they would be in for a shock. There was so much dark magic protecting it, that it would take someone who seriously knew what they were doing to open it. If they made a mistake in the process, oh well, they shouldn’t have tried and Carleigh wasn’t in charge of the funeral arrangements. She hopped back onto her bed and sat indian style, pulling her dress over herself so that she didn’t flash her sister.
“I’m actually almost convinced that all they want is sex, which I can’t complain about really, but I’d like just a tad bit more in the ‘I actually like you’ department. And becoming a stripper seems to be what suits me best. They don’t have to like my personality, just my body, which most guys do anyway. And, plus, it’s not like I haven’t stripped for someone before, in fact, I might actually already be halfway there.” Carleigh had mixed expectations for her future final. She knew she wanted someone with power and money, and good stamina, but on the other hand, she didn’t want to be picky. The girl has yet to find to find a guy who actually cared about her in that way. She has never really felt that kind of love before. “How do you know what it’s like to be a stripper?” Carleigh questioned her sister; she was curious.

Admittedly, Felicity probably shouldn't have told Carleigh that she didn't care, since that wasn't exactly the most diplomatic of things to say. Not to mention, the subtle changes in her body language said that it definitely wasn't the best of things to say. However, Felicity didn't feel the need to apologize for it either, since it was clearly not her fault that Carleigh had turned out the way she did. Though, there were certainly many times where she did put all the blame on herself. She pretty much had been the one to raise Carleigh, after all, so anything she became would partly reflect the way that she herself had raised the girl. At the moment, that wasn't looking to be something that Felicity would be too proud of. There were times she saw sparks of herself in Carleigh, which gave her hope that eventually she'd grow to be someone she could be much more proud of.
Whenever any sort of smirk arose on Carleigh's face, Felicity knew that it was probably a good time to brace herself for something she didn't want to hear. As expected, Carleigh didn't disappoint. Not in the least. Just the comment about Marcus alone was enough to make Felicity tense up and straighten her back out, but the second part was enough to completely take her by surprise. She hadn't really expected Carleigh to either notice or care, so that definitely wasn't a topic she'd thought that she would have to discuss at any point with Carleigh. "Marcus is just a friend. We would never work out," Felicity pointed out, mostly to give herself a second to come up with something to say in response to the latter half of what Carleigh had said.
Biting at her lip for a second, Felicity let a short silence ensue before she decided to broach the subject. "He's not a bad guy, Carleigh. We just got in a fight is all," she commented with a shrug, as if it were no big deal. Of course, considering the fact that Carleigh knew it had happened this time, there was no telling how many other times she had picked up on it. Felicity had been trying her best to keep the fact hidden, but obviously it wasn't an entirely successful endeavor. However, if all went well, she would manage to just play off the situation as if it were nothing and get Carleigh to back down in that matter. Though she welcomed Carleigh's opinion on some things, her engagement wasn't one of them and no amount of criticism would change that.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as Carleigh moved to start rummaging around in her drawer, since Felicity wasn't at all sure what to expect of it. If there was one thing she'd come to learn, it was that she was better off not knowing when it comes to Carleigh and her things. Whatever was in the drawer, she was probably best to just let it go and not wonder about it. "Mmm, no. You know I don't eat candy. Bad for my figure," Felicity replied. She probably needed to lighten up a bit sometimes, but she definitely didn't. She kept herself following such a stringent lifestyle that it was ridiculous. However, it wasn't like she had ever been much different. Even when she hadn't been the captain for the Harpies, she'd always been very strict about how she carried herself and lived out her life.
It hurt Fel to hear Carleigh talk about herself like that. Having no serious goals for the future was sad, at least as far as she was concerned. Besides, she was confident enough that if Carleigh put in some effort she could do plenty with her life. "You're not going to be a stripper, okay? It's just not going to happen," Felicity insisted. She couldn't really tell her what to do, but she definitely would try. At Carleigh's last question, her nose twitched slightly and she sat back in her chair once again. "A friend. I had a friend that was a stripper for awhile. Not a good business," Felicity answered with a short nod. Obviously, that was the best story ever to use. Or something.

The smile you fake, the steps you take You know you never could get it right “I know you and Marcus are just friends, but how would you know that it wouldn’t work out? Have you tried?” Carleigh said. She wasn’t exactly the kind of girl who pushed people into doing things, but this, she thought, would be for the better. Usually she would say ‘fuck it’ and move on to the next thing that tickled her fancy. But her sister was a whole new topic. Even if she didn’t act like she cared, she did…somewhere.
Carleigh looked down into her lap and shook her head slowly. “I’m not a little kid anymore, Fel. That’s not the first fight you’ve gotten into with that bastard. You need to drop him.” This wasn’t the first time she has noticed a bruise like that. She might be blonde, but she was smarter than most people thought. Carl looked her sister straight in the eye, “And don’t tell me that bruise is from sex because I know the difference. You should have seen my knees before I used my wand to fix them up.” Plus, how is it possible to get a bruise on your face during sex? she thought to herself before realizing that she’s had that before. The bruise on her sister’s cheek resembled a hand and judging by the way Fel reacted, she struck a chord. Anyway, she remembered the bruise that she had gotten one time on her face, but it was only because the space that she was in was way to small for three people.
Carleigh popped the lollipop into her mouth, enjoying the burning sensation on her tongue. “Oh, shut up about your figure. You look fine.” Fine was an understatement. Carls was jealous of the way her sister looked. Maybe somewhere in between herself and her sister was the fine line between being fuck buddy material and being girlfriend material. The girl didn’t really have to do much to look the way she did. It just kind of came to her and it didn’t change.
Biting her bottom lip, Carleigh looked up at her sister. Her eyes defogged and became clear as crystals. “What if it’s my only option? The girl’s mind seemed to draw a blank when it came to her future and time was running out. She had to start making arangments. Graduation was in a few months. At Felicity’s answer, Carleigh merely looked at her blankly, not sure if she should buy that crap or not. “I’m actually kind of good at it though…” her voice trailed off. People assume that she has had her fair share of boyfriends over the years, but she hasn’t. Guys seemed to claim her ass like property, but never had the balls to ask her out for real. Dates turned into the code word for hookups for her, not that she could complain. To some extent she enjoyed the non commitment sex, but she was always longing for something more.

The persistence that Carleigh was showing wasn't something that Felicity was used to, that was for sure. Usually she could depend on Carleigh to just drop a subject after a few moments, but apparently that just wasn't going to happen. "No, I haven't tried and I don't intend to. He's a great guy, but he's not my guy," Felicity replied with a tone that implied she was quite done talking about that. Sure, she liked Marcus a lot, but he was just a friend and always would be. Admittedly, he'd make a fantastic boyfriend or husband for someone, but Felicity was more than certain that that someone wasn't her. She had a fiancee she loved and she didn't intend to go about changing that.
In a way, Felicity almost appreciated that Carleigh had cared enough to notice, but that was far overshadowed by the fact that she really didn't want to talk about it. It wasn't a good situation, exactly, but it was where Felicity wanted to be. Sort of. "Okay, fine. It's happened before, but it's still not that big of an issue. He's not a bastard, he's just dealing with a lot of stress," Felicity retorted. She would defend her fiancee's actions no matter what anyone else said about him. Even if he was a tad more violent than was probably healthy, he had his moments where he was perfect. It was that man that she loved and Carleigh would just have to learn to see it her way, since it damn well wasn't about to change. She wasn't going to drop him just because Carleigh thought it was a good idea.
Her mouth opened to snap back to Carleigh, but she quickly closed it with a huff instead, not wanting to argue over something so ridiculous. "I look fine now, but if I start eating things like that, I won't," Felicity said with a nod. Though she was loathe to admit it, she knew that she was getting older and that the weight wouldn't just magically stay off, no matter how much she willed it to. Felicity wanted to be in top condition for years to come with her career and there most definitely wasn't a candy in the world that could convince her otherwise. Even if she did miss the burn that came with the acid pops. Her jaw clenched up in a steely determination as she watched Carleigh, particularly jealous of the fact that the girl was young and hardly had to worry about her figure.
It didn't matter a damn to Felicity that Carleigh seemed to think that stripping was her only option in life, since there was just no way in hell that it would happen. She'd stick the girl on a leash and watch her like a hawk before she let her go do something that ridiculous. "There are always other options. You could go into modeling or something. That's tasteful and you don't have old pervs all over you," Felicity suggested, throwing the first idea that came to mind out of her mouth. Though, it wasn't that bad of a suggestion, either. Carleigh had the looks to do it, for sure. After all, she was a Stryder and Felicity had graced the cover of enough magazines to know that it was much better of an option than stripping ever would be.
At Carleigh's comment, Felicity's eyes flicked up angrily. She wasn't sure if that meant that Carleigh had ever worked as a stripper before, but she damn well better not have. Felicity had been seventeen when she had started, the same age as Carleigh was now, and she would hate to see Carleigh follow in her footsteps in that regard. "It doesn't matter how good you are at it. It's not safe," Felicity insisted, looking over at Carleigh and imploring the girl to actually listen to what she was saying. She doubted that she would, but that didn't deter Fel's determination to make this one of the few things that her younger sister actually took her advice on. She may not have had the closest relationship with her as of late, but she cared about Carleigh more than anything.
