So, perhaps you're looking at the site and wondering just how to
get started with everything. Well, not to worry because we're
happy to share just what you need to do to get settled in!
STEP-BY-STEP
1. Decide on a character.Perhaps you already have one in mind, but if not there are plenty of options that are free for the taking. Our canon list has plenty of openings and you'll usually have a good number of plots already worked in with the characters there. There are also the wanted ads, which will definitely come with a plot and lots of love ;]
2. Register an account.
Typically, you should register your account with the first name of your character. That keeps things uniform and such, but we won't yell at you if you use something different.
3. Register your characterOnce you have an account up and running, you should get your character registered and ready to go! If your character is a canon character, you'll want to register them in the canon registration thread. Likewise, if your character is an original, you'll want to register them in the originals registration thread. It's fairly easy to register and all you have to do is fill out the small form and reply to that thread with it.
4. Reply to claimsOnce your character is sorted, it's name will change colours to match the group they belong to. After that, you're free to post as you please, but first you should probably fill out the claims. The most important is the face claim since that will help avoid any confusions with your play-by. If your character is a part of either the Marauders or the Death Squadron, there are claims for positions with that. The Marauders are here and the Death Squadron is here. Both adults and students are welcome to have jobs and for easy reference we have a variety of different claims. If your character has a job in a shop either in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade, they should reply here. Adults can also claim professor positions and professional Quidditch positions. Students are welcome to join school Quidditch teams or become prefects. It is recommended that you also respond to the who's who claim, just so people get to know you a little better.
5. Make a plot page.
Once you've got your claims completed and your character is ready to get used, you should probably create a plot page for them. This is how other characters get to start building relationships with your characters and how you get your character involved in the site. There is no set template for plot pages, so just head on over to this board and get a page up with a bit of detail about your character. You can also respond to other plot pages with any ideas that you may have.
6. Create a WWW profile.
Something that's a bit unique to the site is the WWW, or the Wizarding World Web. Essentially, it is similar to a Facebook for the wizards. It's a great way to get your characters involved, as they can add friends, send messages, join fan pages, or comment on photo albums with their friends. To have a board made for your character, respond to this thread with the form filled out. A sub-board will be created for your character and you can post your profile and then customize the rest of the board as you wish. It might be helpful to look at a few of the other boards as an example to help show how everything works.
7. Get involved!
The most important step, perhaps, is getting your character involved with the site. There are many ways you can start to do this, so it should be pretty easy. You can, of course, use your WWW and interact there, since that's a quick, simple way to start using your characters. The board games are also a fun way to just start getting your character out there. Of course, you most definitely should get your character in a thread, as well. There is an open threads list that you can use to find a thread, or you can message someone that you're particularly interested in threading with, or you can just create an open thread for people to respond to! There is also usually an event taking place on the site, so make sure you check the announcements to see what's going on. Of course, along with your character you yourself should get to know the other people around the site! The best way to do that is to start chatting in the c-box or post in the random chat board to introduce yourself and all that good stuff. The more involved you are, the more fun you'll have, so good luck and do enjoy!
