Talan wasn't the kind of guy that went places. Ever. In fact, it was practically a miracle if he did anything aside from his duties as Head Boy and his school work. Today, however, was one of the few days that he found himself with extra time. He'd finished his work for his classes and was left with nothing to do. That, more than anything, was an unsettling feeling for the boy. He liked to be productive and clearly this lack of things to do was counterproductive to that feeling. So, he took it upon himself to find something to busy himself with. Which, unlike most of his classmates, amounted to his wandering the corridors looking for trouble that he could stop.
Technically, he wasn't supposed to be on duty at the time, but that didn't matter to Talan. He'd much rather spend his extra time cleaning the school up from all the small ragamuffins looking to cause problems than going out and doing something. After all, being out shopping and doing nothing worthwhile wasn't going to help him at all with life. Clearly, this was the best option. Tugging his coat on, Talan left from the Slytherin commons room to stalk up to the upper floors. Obviously, it was more likely that the Gryffindors were causing a ruckus than the Slytherins, so Talan climbed the stairs to start his ascent up to the upper floors of the castle.

Dani was somebody who was always doing the unexpected. She always seemed to be the exact opposite of what someone expected her to be. The Ravenclaw had quite a loud personality for someone who couldn't talk. She always seemed to be doing something since she just couldn't stand having nothing to do. It scared her, and she didn't like that feeling at all. She liked doing something productive with her time instead of wasting it all on staring at the ceiling or whatever it was that people did when they couldn't think of something to do.
So what was she doing now? She was currently sitting on the ground, and Dani couldn't quite remember which floor she was currently in, seeing how she was preoccupied with trying to think of something to draw. When she had a idea in mind one of the charcoal was picked up between her index finger and thumb. Rolling the chalky stick between them the tips were smudge with black. Gently, Dani touched the charcoal to the paper and dashed it across the page chopping up an outline. She typically drew quickly and five minutes later the page was half finished. A disturbing scene was laid out on the paper- mangled trees with branches resembling claws outstretched toward the viewer, shadowed figures with an Edvard Munch The Scream vibe to them, and a large black bird, wings closing in on itself during its descent. The dark and ominous feeling of her sketch was intensified by Dani¡¯s finger rubbing across the page in choice places to shade it.

Most prefects probably would have considered the general lack of debauchery around the halls to be a good thing. It meant that they didn't have to bother writing anyone up and they certainly didn't have to worry about dealing with the headmaster. However, Talan hated it. Without people to get in trouble, he more or less didn't have a job to do and that was awful. The last thing that Talan wanted was a quiet day around the castle, of which there were very few. Obviously, the more quiet it was, the more likely it was that someone somewhere was doing something very wrong and Talan was quite determined to find that person, whoever they may be.
Bounding up the stairs to the fifth floor, Talan looked around with a rather irate grimace on his face. Once again, it seemed that there was no one doing anything worth getting them into trouble for. There wasn't even anyone there to dock points from. Padding down one of the hallways, Talan rounded the corner with a grin as he was met with the sight of a girl sitting on the floor. Certainly there must be some rule against loitering in the hallways, right? Might as well be, as far as Talan was concerned. With a rather pleased look on his face, he strode over to the girl, looking as intimidating as possible. However, when he turned to see who it was, his face fell into a rather disappointed look. He couldn't very well dock points from Danielle. "Good afternoon, Dani. How are you?" Talan asked, raising an eyebrow curiously as he glanced down at the drawing she was working on.

Whenever Dani was doing something she really enjoyed, she almost always was sucked into whatever she was doing. At the moment, she was still working on her drawing and her hand never seemed to take a break or falter. She never seemed to stop doing whatever activity she was doing until she was finished with it because she seemed to always forget what she was planning to do with it the next day if she left it unfinished. Ideas seemed to escape from her as often as they seemed to come to her. It also didn't help that she never bothered to write down her ideas and what she wanted to do with them since she didn't like planning things.
So, when someone approched from down the hall, something that she should have heard in the empty and hollow hallway, Dani was completely oblivious. It was only when the person spoke that she was pulled back into reality. Looking up, and when she saw that it was Talan, her face lit up and she ripped a page out of her sketchbook and started writing her reply in charcoal. I'm fine, thanks for asking. How have you been? She handed him the piece of paper, and she returned to her drawing. Dani did realize that it was a bit rude, but she didn't want to finish the drawing later seeing how she was just going to forget it. Though thankfully, it didn't take too long for her to finish it.

It had taken some time for Talan to get accustomed to conversing with Dani, but now it seemed just as normal as any other conversation. If anything, Talan quite preferred chatting with Dani. She didn't blabber on about useless things that he honestly couldn't care less about and that was definitely a nice change of pace from most of the people he encountered. Taking the leaf of paper from her, Talan read it quickly, a small smile gracing his features. "I've been alright. Just roaming about on duty," he replied with a nod, pausing for a moment to let Danielle continue with her drawing. He could understand how it got sometimes when you were really into something and he didn't want to disrupt her far too much. Though he wasn't an artist by any means, he certainly appreciated what they did.
As he waited for her to finish, Talan leaned his back up against the wall to the side and made himself comfortable. Though he was on a mission to find people to get into trouble, he didn't mind taking a few moments out of his day to talk to Dani. Besides, Mia always did say that he needed to get out and talk to people more. Though, he had a feeling this wasn't exactly what she had in mind by "getting out." "What have you been up to? Anything exciting?" he inquired, once he saw that she had, he thought, finished with what she was doing.

Dani quite liked Talan, and not in that way either. He was nice and let her drag him outside just because she thought he needed to meet new people, and most of all he didn't find her continuing to draw rude, like so many other people did. She understood why they thought it was rude, but what she couldn't understand was how ridiculous their reaction was. Talan wasn't like that though, and that was one of the many reasons why she was comfortable around him. When he spoke again, a little frown appeared on Dani's face. He was always on duty, and she couldn't seem to recall ever seeing him being outside willingly. Though she didn't voice those opinions, there was no need to be rude.
When she was finished, Dani admired her work and her frown was then replaced with a smile. The drawing was bit dark and maybe even just a little bit too disturbing, even for her, but the girl was never the type of person who drew cheerful pictures even as a child. She found that drawings or paintings like this often times expressed her emotions, though for the life of her, she could find out how this drawing expressed her emotions. Dani was a little bit too absorbed in her thoughts and almost jumped when Talan spoke. She shook her head in reply and got another piece of paper and she began to write, though it took her a little longer this time. Nothing much, I've just been working on my sketches and looking for people to talk to. This is probably the most exciting thing that's happened to me this whole week. Her last statement wasn't true at all. She had sent a boy to the hospital wing because he had made a rude comment about one of her friends, but Talan didn't need to know that.

Though Talan didn't care to be out and about at any point ever, Dani was able to get that out of him. So, when he saw the slight frown on her face when he mentioned the fact that he was on duty, his stomach clenched slightly in anticipation. He wasn't sure just how busy she was, but he had a sinking feeling that if she didn't have anything else to do that she very well could invite him to do something. Which, while he rarely actually wanted to do any of it, he could never refuse. It wasn't necessarily that he felt bad for her because she was mute, though that did play a part in it, but it was mostly because in a way she reminded him of Mia. And Mia always got what she wanted from Talan. Always.
His attention flicked back down to Dani when she started to write again and he waited for a moment as she finished up. Another smile graced his feature as he read, shaking his head slightly. "Well, that's just not right. A girl like you should be out with all sorts of people having the time of her life, hm?" he commented with a subtle smirk playing at his lips. Dani was one of those people that he was able to relax a bit around and actually have a normal conversation with."I'm sure you could find plenty of people that want to go out and do something," Talan said, inclining his head for a moment to emphasize what he was saying.

If someone had asked Dani why Talan always seemed to be fine with her dragging outside, her answer would most likely be a shrug. She honestly did not know what possessed him to say yes everytime she asked him to go someplace with her. She really hoped that it wasn't because she was mute. That would make her feel horrible and not to mention a bit angry at him. She hated when she was treated differently just because she was mute. She couldn't understand what was so special or different about her, she was just like any other kid, except for the fact that she couldn't talk. If anything, she believed that she probably more normal than most of the students at Hogwarts, but that was just her opinion and she was sure that there were people out there who thought differently.
She would have laughed if she could at what he said, but Dani had to settle with a smile. She scribbled down on the piece of paper quickly. Oh, I wish, but apparently everyone else is too busy doing something to spend some time with me. Now she didn't know where her friends were, since they didn't seem to be in the common room, and she couldn't remember if there was something important going on today. The halls seemed so empty today, and everyone seemed to be outside. Normally she would go outside and look for them, but today she had wanted some alone time. That was, until Talan showed up. Now she wanted to drag him outside to meet people, or at least get some fresh air and some sunshine. He looked like he needed it. When he spoke again, Dani jumped up, threw her arms around him and gave him a hug. After a minute, she let go of him and grabbed her sketchbook and a piece of charcoal. Are you saying that you'll let me drag you somewhere?

Looking down to read Dani's next slip of paper, Talan gave her a look of fake outrage. "Why, that just isn't fair. Obviously everyone should be putting down whatever it is they may be doing to accommodate you," Talan replied with a look that spelled complete shock and disbelief. It was, of course, just Talan being overly dramatic and sarcastic, but he did feel like Danielle deserved far more company than it seemed she had at the moment. Mostly because he was generally fond of her, but probably also partly because that would mean that she could have someone else to drag about the world to do things. A selfish though, sure, but Talan wasn't exactly known for being the most caring of guys ever. Very few people got to see that side of him at all.
There were a few things that were able to make Talan supremely uncomfortable and hugs were one of those things. He wasn't used to getting them and on the odd occasion that he did, it was usually from Mia. So, when Dani swooped in to put her arms around him, Talan stiffened up awkwardly and paused until it was over, breathing a quick sigh of relief when she pulled back to write something else. Which, as it turned out, was a something else that just made the situation worse. He was more or less trying to suggest that someone else would go places with her, but it seemed that somehow she had interpreted that to mean that he was eager to go out. "Ah, well, I might be able to ah, to spare a few moments, yes," Talan said with a lame nod. Clearly he wasn't getting out of that one.

Smiling, she rolled her eyes at his next comment. She liked it when he was being over dramatic. It was funny, at least to her, and it made her even more relaxed and comfortable in his presence if that was even possible. She didn't bother to write a reply, since she had nothing to say or add on to it, she chose to just nod in agreement to what he had said. Though, if she was being honest, she didn't really mind not having much company or anyone to spend time with all that much. In fact, Dani kind of liked being alone sometimes. It was the only time she could get away from the world and all her problems, not that anyone knew that she had any problems. Oh no, she hid things really well, so well that people rarely knew when there was something wrong with her.
She could tell right away that he didn't want to go wherever she was going to take him. He rarely did, but he always seemed to say yes, and Dani couldn't understand why. She would have said no, and she was sure that Talan would have said no too if someone else had asked him to go somewhere. She wrote another note and handed it to him You know you don't have to do this. It's okay for you to say no. Dani was going to be just fine if he told her that he didn't want her to drag him off somewhere. After all, he didn't seem like the kind of guy who liked going to places, and she didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable.

Danielle's reaction brought a pleased smirk to Talan's face, since it appeared he had succeeded in his goal of making her feel more comfortable. Though he very rarely put forth such an effort, Talan could actually be a rather charming sort of fellow. Mostly that only came out when he was off working at the Ministry, since to him those were the people that mattered, but there was the occasional moment where he did so around his fellow classmates. Usually it was only around those people that he felt would carry weight in the future, but there were also those times where it was just someone he quite liked and Danielle was one of the very few that fell into that category.
Taking her next note, he kept his face from falling into an irate grimace. He hated when people said that. Telling him that it was okay to say no just made him feel that much more obligated to say yes, a trait which had come about all at the hands of his younger sister. He couldn't say no to Mia and by extension he had lost the ability to say no to any other girls that he cared about. To anyone else, well, he wouldn't even consider saying yes, but Danielle was different. "Of course not. It's not so bad to go out once in awhile, yes?" Talan replied with a bit of a smile on his face. He knew he couldn't fully play it off as if he were pleased to be going, but he at least could attempt to be more pleasant. "Come on, let's go have fun," he added, giving her another charming smile.

When Talan had refused to say no, Dani let out a little sigh. It wasn't that she didn't want him to go, it was quite the opposite actually, but she wanted him to actually want to go too, not just because she had forced him to go. She knew that she could tell him that he could say no a million times, he was still going to say yes. Dani just hoped that one of these days he was going to start enjoying this. She didn't want him to be doing something that he disliked or even hated against his will. That would just be horrible for Talan, and not to mention, she would be completely upset about dragging him around, making him do things that he didn't want to do. She did get upset over little things, that was Hufflepuff side of her.
Well, if you say so. She handed him the note and started to walk away a bit slowly, giving him time to back out if he wanted to. Dani tried to think of places where she hasn¡¯t dragged him to, but her mind was coming up blank. It seemed as if she had taken him everywhere already, and she was pretty sure that she had. She started to write another note. So where do you want to go? Dani wanted to let him choose where they would go today since she rarely did, and it would also give him the chance to back out.

It was clear that Danielle wasn't exactly all too pleased by the fact that Talan wasn't able to refuse her, but he didn't care. She wanted him to go out with her to do things and so he was going to. Besides, he would have felt like he'd been a disappointment to Dani if he had refused her and that was the last thing that he wanted to happen. It wasn't exactly that he felt like he had to keep her happy, but he definitely didn't want to feel like he was making her feel bad in any way. Plus, for all he knew it could somehow turn out to be fun. He rather doubted it, but it could always happen, of course. He liked Dani and she could be a good time, even if they would probably go somewhere that he wasn't particularly fond of.
He nodded to her note and started to trail after her. Padding along behind her, Talan couldn't help but wonder where, exactly, they would be going. She hadn't said anything to indicate where they'd be off to, but it wasn't like it particularly mattered. He glanced at the next note that she wrote him, rather taken aback by it. It wasn't often that he got to pick their destination. "Ah, I know a rather nice little French bistro we can go to. It's a bit out of the way, but they have fantastic food," he suggested. He wasn't sure that going somewhere like that was what Dani had in mind when she suggested that they go out, but it was one of his favorite places to be. It was quiet, had good food and he was rarely bothered while he was there.

It didn¡¯t take much for Dani to agree to go to the French bistro had suggested. Even though it wasn¡¯t exactly what she had in mind. What she did have in mind was for them to go someplace where he didn¡¯t go to often, but then again, she did let him choose where he wanted to go today. It may have also had something to do with the fact that she wanted, no needed, to eat something right now. This morning she had ate very little for breakfast, and she had skipped lunch just so she could help her best friend with something important. The brunette was starving. That sounds wonderful! Dani wrote down quickly and eagerly. It would be nice to have something to eat.

Quite pleased that Dani was agreeing to go the the bistro as opposed to some other, crazier location, Talan gave her a quite nod of approval. It was nearing time for lunch, besides, so it was probably a good idea that they were going somewhere with food. "If we still have time, we can go somewhere else if you'd like. Your choice," Talan offered, figuring that would give her her chance to drag him about someplace. That way, they both got what they wanted for a time. Offering his arm to walk with her from the castle, Talan waited just a moment before turning to walk again. "Hopefully it's a nice day out," Talan commented, not sure what the weather was like outside of the castle at the time. As long as it wasn't raining, he figured it would be a nice change to go for a walk down to Hogsmeade.
